Laura Smith

Laura  Smith, 77, of Ottumwa, died February 19, 2020 at her home.

She was born November 15, 1942 in Corydon.  Laura married Roger “Dean” Smith on November 13, 1964 and he preceded her in death on April 9, 2000.

Laura was a 1961 graduate of Ottumwa High School.  She had worked in the offices of J.W. Edgerly and Lowenberg Bakery before becoming a homemaker.

She attended Plymouth Congregational Church and was a 50+ year member of Order of Eastern Star.  Laura enjoyed going to eat with the J.W. Edgerly group, doing yardwork, gardening, helping her husband operate his garage, going on vacation with her family, and in later years with her husband to Door County.

Surviving is her son, Scott Smith; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald “Bud” Smith and Colleen Smith of Hartford, MO; nephew, Ron Smith and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Mae Nicholson; grandfather, Clement Nicholson; a nephew, Randy Smith and a dear family friend, Margaret Mitchell.

Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor Bill Alexander officiating.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
