Lester Hobbs

Lester Ray Hobbs, Jr., 83, of Ottumwa, passed away at 11:44 a.m. February 10, 2021 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

He was born September 30, 1937 in Ottumwa to Lester Ray and Genevieve Rose McCarty Hobbs, Sr. He married Shirley Frances Nevins on September 4, 1959 in Ottumwa, IA at the Benton Street Pentecostal Church with Pastor Mabel Grimes officiating.

In his younger years, Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid antique radio and phonograph collector and restorer and has made many friends to share this hobby with.

Lester worked for the City of Ottumwa as an electrician and in traffic maintenance for 37 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a man of great faith and was a member of Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon.

Lester will always be remembered by his wife of 61 years, Shirley; three children, Kim Stevens of Ottumwa, Randy (Robyn) Hobbs of Fremont and Scott (Angie) Hobbs of Bloomfield; 9 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ron Hobbs of Agency, sisters, Yvonne Padget, Nadine Traxler and Leveda Cain of Ottumwa, Barbara Hoover and Carolyn Harsh of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Izora Day; and a brother, Michael Hobbs.

Open visitation for friends will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, February 15th at Reece Funeral Home. His family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.

Public funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 16th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Clark officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery. For those unable to attend the service, you may watch live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook
