Bettina Jean Arter, 81, of Ottumwa, died at 8:57 p.m. February 19, 2021 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

She was born October 22, 1939 in Iowa City to Nathan and Dorothy Irene Owen Vest. She married John R. Arter Jr. February 15, 1958 and he preceded her in death April 12, 2008.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1958, Bettie worked 19 years at Everco and for 6 years at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, retiring in 2003.

Surviving are two daughters, Kerri Lynn (Rick) Rupe of Ottumwa and Kathy Nickos of Ottumwa; five grandchildren, Blaine Rupe, Blaire (Brian) Siems, Blake Rupe, Blaise (Emma) Rupe and Casey Arter; ten great grandchildren, Addison, Charli, Isabel, Jonesy, Porter, Finley, Henry, Raven, Kalis and Jacieanna; a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Keeney.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Scott Edward Arter; a grandson, John Curtis Arter, a son-in-law, Marc Nickos; and a brother, B.J. Vest.

Open visitation will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 23rd at Reece Funeral Home. Limited family will be present to greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Public funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. For those unable to attend the service, you may watch live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Indian Hills Community College Foundation for nursing scholarships.
