Mary Irene Troxel LaRue, 84, of Ottumwa, went to be with the Lord at Monroe County Hospital March 19, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
She was born November 22, 1936 in Ottumwa to Cecil and Ina Burtis Troxel. She married Raymond LaRue December 24, 1954 and he preceded her in death June 28, 2006.
Irene worked for many years in the kitchen at Ottumwa Regional Health Center and after retiring, worked at Wal-Mart in Ottumwa.
Irene loved spending time outside growing flowers as colorful as her personality and enjoying the sun. While inside, she loved cuddling her fur baby, Lady and reading. What she loved the most was spending time with her family. They enjoyed cookouts, card games, and any reason to get together so she could watch the little ones play and making wonderful memories together. Her family and friends will miss her beautiful smile, joyful personality and her loving heart.
Surviving are her children, Joyce (Rick) Parks, Carolyn (Brian) VanGorp, Ken (Leslie) LaRue and Rich (Deana) LaRue all of Ottumwa, and Margie (Wayne) Paradise of Florida; her grandchildren, Ricky, Natasha, Robert, Kala, Tamara, Cory, Chelsea, Kristen and Eleanor; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and her sisters and brother, Ruth Ferdig, Catherine Moore, John Troxel and Jane Carnes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two infant granddaughters, Jessica Marie and Jennifer Lynn.
Her body has been cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Whatsoever You Do, Inc. or Care Initiatives Hospice.
Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
