Debbie McDonough

Debra Sue McDonough, 66, of Ottumwa, died March 27, 2021 surrounded by her family in Ottumwa.

She was born October 29, 1954 in Ottumwa to James Melvin and Marilyn Joyce Cooper Hazelwood. She married Charles Michael McDonough April 28, 1979.

A 1972 graduate of Ottumwa High School, she graduated from Indian Hills Community College with a degree in nursing.

Debbie worked as the Director of Nursing at Ottumwa Manor and for 25 years at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa, working with Alzheimer’s patients.

She attended First Pentecostal Assembly of God. She enjoyed music, playing various instruments, crocheting and especially her cats.

Surviving is her husband, Mike; two sons, Ryan (Desiree) McDonough and Tyler (Kristi) McDonough both of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Ariel, Grady, Halayna and Alyssa; her mother, Joyce Hazelwood of Ottumwa; a sister, Sandy (Wayne) Billings of Ottumwa; niece, Amanda (Ronnie) Pumphrey; nephew, Shane Billings; aunt and uncle, Betty and Glen Hall.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents, Bill and Margaret Cooper, J.D. and Mary Hazelwood; several aunts and uncles including Charlotte and Dave Stober.

Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 31st at Reece Funeral Home. Her family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Public funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 1st at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating. For those unable to attend the service, you may watch live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page.

Cremation will follow the service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties or the Alzheimer’s Association.
