Ethel Maxine Ashmead, 92, of Ottumwa, died at 2 a.m. July 18, 2021 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
She was born February 24, 1929 in Ottumwa to Vern and Varina Thomas Eakins. Maxine married Merle Ashmead on June 13, 1947 and he preceded her in death on February 18, 2002.
Maxine was a member of Miller Chapel. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and painting.
Surviving is her daughter, Maxine (Dennis) Brown of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren, Jakki Short (Kenny Lagle) of Eldon, Jerry (Dolly) Blomgren of Oregon, Melissa (Guy) Ware of Ottumwa, Cory (Jeanne) Benge of Ottumwa and Denise Grace of Corning; 16 great-grandchildren, Fonzi, Aaron, Ty, Nikki, Cheyenne, Randi, Josie, Kaylynn, Shelby, Maddison, Mason, Cody, Shyann, Tyler, Logan and Emma; several great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Erma Edge, Beverly Blomgren and Karon Groseclose all of Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-great-grandson, Race Webster; a nephew, Vern Bone; 2 brothers, Doyle and Donald Eakins and a toddler sister, Marguerite.
Visitation will be open at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 21st, at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 22nd, at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor William Eakins officiating. Burial will be in a private cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa Hospice.
