Barbara L. Curtis, age 78, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
Barbara was born on October 2, 1942 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Ruth (Rhodes) Humphreys. She graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1960. She was united in marriage to Larry L. Curtis Sr. on May 31, 1960. To this union, four children were born, Laura, Rebecca, Larry Jr., and Julia. The couple later divorced.
Following in her mother and aunt’s footsteps, Barbara worked in the medical field as a nurse for several years. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, journaling, reading cookbooks-where she loved finding new recipes and documenting them. Barbara loved drinking coffee, watching drag racing in her earlier years, listening to oldies music, especially Elvis, flowers, and bird watching, especially her favorite bird, the hummingbird. Her family would like to say a special thank you to Barbara’s Golden Age Care Center family.
Left to cherish Barbara’s memory are her children, Laura (Michael) Fontana of Albia, Iowa, Rebecca (Donald) Stanek of Johnston, Iowa, and Larry (Summer) Curtis Jr. of Baxter, Iowa; a brother, David (Andrea) Humphreys of Princeton, Texas; seven grandchildren, Michelea (Joe) Mikels, Mason (Melissa) Hurley, Jordan Johnson, Jasmine (Drake Bronson) Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Larry Curtis III, and Jenna (Dalton) Hyle; eight great grandchildren, Emily Mikels, Alex Mikels, Liam Bronson, Lincoln Bronson, Kenna Hurley, Ridge Hurley, Aleaha Hyle, and Alyas Hyle; as well as several nieces, and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ruth Humphreys; her brother, Richard Don Humphreys; and an infant daughter, Julia Ann Curtis.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM, Monday, July 26, 2021 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial will follow at the Shoney Cemetery, south of Exline. A visitation will take place Monday, July 26, 2021 from 11:00AM-1:00PM at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville.
