Darrell Allen Carnes, 59, of Davenport, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 8:43 a.m. July 28, 2021 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born August 13, 1961 in Ottumwa to Thomas E. and Karen Kay Belger Carnes. Darrell married Cindy Sue McCoy March 7, 1981.
A 1979 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Darrell worked for John Morrell in Sioux City and Excel/Cargil Meat Solutions in Ottumwa. He then became the maintenance manager at the Cargil plant in Marshall, MO. Leaving Cargil, he owned and operated his own construction company and later became the plant manager for a production plant in Georgia. Moving back to Marshall, MO he worked for MRG, teaching maintenance strategies. He moved to Davenport in 2014 and worked for BP Oil, traveling around the globe teaching maintenance strategies until 2019.
Darrell attended Heritage Church in Rock Island, IL. He enjoyed fishing and organized the Cargil fishing tournaments for many years. Darrell loved always having a project going on.
Surviving is his wife, Cindy; their daughter, Calli (Michael) Weir of Davenport; grandchildren, Easton and Griffin; brothers, Bryan Carnes and Tim (Mary Jo) Carnes both of Ottumwa; and his father-in-law, Glenn McCoy of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved dog, Bella, his mother-in-law, Joyce McCoy, and brother-in-law, Tony McCoy.
Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Sunday, August 1st at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 2nd at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Lockett and Pastor Josh Howard officiating. For those unable to attend the service, it may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or GBS/CIDP Foundation.
