Dale DeKraai

Dale Richard DeKraai, 89, of Ottumwa, died at 11:34 p.m. July 31, 2021 at The Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.

He was born March 13, 1932 in Ottumwa to Charles and Eurith Wiseman DeKraai. He married Deloris A. Krayenhagen December 10, 1960 in Memphis, MO.

A 1950 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Dale was a member of Plumber and Steamfitters Local Union #33 for 70 years. He lived and worked in the Ottumwa area most of his life, spending 3 years in Great Bend, KS helping construct a hospital. He retired from Winger Contracting Co. in 1995.

He was a member of Albia Road Baptist Church, the Ottumwa Coin Club and the Oskaloosa Coin Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting John Wayne and George Custer books.


Surviving is his wife, Deloris; four daughters, Deborah (Kirk) Miller of New London, Kelley Jernigan, Debra Peek-Conder and Katrina Rupe all of Ottumwa; a son, Dennis DeKraai of Fort Madision; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard DeKraai of Ottumwa and Walter DeKraai of Lynden, WA.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald DeKraai; two daughters, Denise DeKraai and Deanna DeKraai; three grandsons, Christopher Peek, Danny DeKraai and Arthur Thrasher Rupe; and five brothers.

Visitation will be open after 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 4th at Reece Funeral Home with his family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 5th at Albia Road Baptist Church with Pastors Chet Coolbaugh and Jeremy Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Albia Road Baptist Church or Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
