Mildred DeVore

Mildred A. DeVore, age 92, of Centerville, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022 at Centerville Specialty Care.

Mildred was born on March 10, 1929 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Opal (Zeller) Link.  She graduated from Centerville High School.  On June 8, 1947, Mildred was united in marriage to Leonard Leslie DeVore in Centerville, Iowa.  To this union, four children were born, James, John, Judy and Mark.

Mildred farmed her entire life.  She loved cooking and taking care of her family.  She was fond of fishing, sewing, knitting and crocheting.  She had a passion for music, especially playing the organ.  Mildred was very involved in her church, Seymour Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  She was also a member of the Seymour American Legion Auxiliary and was involved in painting clubs.

Left to cherish Mildred’s memory are her children, James (Nora) DeVore of Des Moines, John (Barb) DeVore of Centerville, Judy (Gary) Masters of Centerville, and Mark (Ronda Peterson) DeVore of Ankeny; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Link, Donna Caldwell and Beulah DeVore; 12 grandchildren, Clint (JoAnn) DeVore, Brady (Becky) DeVore, Travis DeVore, Jayna (Matt) Linn, Karin (Troy) McMahon, Kim (John) Lowenberg, Nathan (Tricia) DeVore, Chira McKee, Stephanie (Michael) Sargent, Kristi (Ben) Ritter, Jacob (Alissa) DeVore, Jamaica (Matt) Ensley; two step grandchildren, Brenda Masters and Jeff (Janet) Masters; 38 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Opal Link; her husband, Leslie DeVore; a brother, James Link; her sister, Helen Loofbourrow; as well as several other family members.

Funeral services will be held at 10AM, Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating.   Burial will follow the service at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour.  Pallbearers for Mildred’s service will be Troy McMahon, Nathan DeVore, Brady DeVore, Aidan McMahon, Jacob DeVore, and John Lowenberg. Visitation will take place Monday, February 14, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 5-7PM.  Memorials have been established to either Alzheimer’s Association or to the family of Mildred DeVore, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, ATTN: DeVore family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com or on our funeral home Facebook page.
