Dustin Charles Silver, 84, of Stockport, IA passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Jefferson County Health Care Center. As were his wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial service in his honor will be scheduled for a later date. Memorial contributions in Dustin’s honor may be directed to the Stockport Legion Post 147 and mailed c/o Pedrick Funeral Home, P.O. Dustin Charles Silver was born on June 27, 1937, in Carroll, IA to Richard F. and Marie Dustin Silver. During his childhood his family traveled with his father who was a Colonel in the United States Air Force. He graduated high school in Arlington Virginia and shortly after began his career with the United States Army. While stationed in Germany, Dustin met the love of his life, Herlinde Niesner. The two were married on December 5, 1959, in Schweinfurt, Germany. They remained by each other’s side for over 62 years. Dustin’s military career of 30 years included the opportunity for international travel, service in Vietnam and concluded with teaching ROTC at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. Dustin and Herlinde were the proud parents of two children, Cheri and Richard. Upon Dustin’s retirement they returned to the family farm in Stockport, IA where he would remain for the rest of his life. Dustin always enjoyed sports and played tennis, racquetball and pool at a very competitive level, winning many tournaments throughout his life. He was always proud of his service with the Army and was a member in the local legions. His memory will be cherished by his family and his friends.
Dustin was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to honor his memory is his loving wife Herlinde of Stockport, IA; two children, Cheri (Steven) Gibson of Frankton, IN and Richard Silver of Munster, IN; one brother, Clark (Patricia) Silver; two sisters, Nancy (Robert) Poole and Jane St.Clair, as well 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
