DOROTHY McDERMOTT
OTTUMWA-Dorothy L. McDermott, 93, of Ottumwa, died at 11:50 a.m. September 27, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
She was born March 9, 1923 in Agency to Walter and Freda Thompson Gay. She married Kenneth McDermott on January 9, 1943 and he preceded her in death on December 17, 2011.
A 1941 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Dorothy had worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone. She was an Avon representative for 40 years. Most importantly she was a wife, mother and grandmother.
Dorothy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar & Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Debbie) McDermott of Ankeny, IA and Jack (Sandy) McDermott of Madison, WI; 5 grandchildren, Laurie (Richard) Lewandowski, Deborah (Don) Loecke, Patrick (April) McDermott, Chad (Denise) McDermott, Melissa (Eric) Glanz; 9 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Robert Gay and a sister Helen Lanning.
Her body has been cremated.
Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday October 10, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family will greet friends at Reece Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday October 9, 2016.
