Bill Boylan, born on April 7, 1941 in Des Moines, IA, and a long-time resident of Melrose, Iowa, passed away June 23, 2024 at the age of 83. Bill was a dedicated individual who found joy in serving others and creating lasting memories. His commitment to his work as a truck driver for Robert’s Dairy and Parcel Trucking Companies was evident throughout his career and in his well-deserved reputation as a dependable and hardworking professional.
Bill lived a life filled with vibrant experiences, many of which were shared with his beloved friends and family. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through in the ten years he and his wife spent owning and operating two bars, the Red Barn and High Noon Saloon. His younger years were filled with the excitement of fishing and boating, hobbies he cherished and held dear. After retirement, Bill found a new passion and created lifelong memories driving a party bus for 20 years, becoming a beloved figure known as “Bus Driver Bill”. His dedication to this role, especially during the Ragbrai riders’ events, was unwavering.
Throughout his life, Bill was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, an affiliation he held in high regard. His dedication to those around him was the cornerstone of his life, and he always prioritized his friends and family above all else.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie of Melrose; a daughter Cindi Lynn (Dale) Ford of Woodburn and a son, Rob Boylan of Burlington; siblings, Loretta (Dave Burk) and Barb Meeks. He also is survived by eight grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and beloved dog, Sadie May. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luick & Evelyn (Rynerson) Boylan; children, James “Jimmy” Boylan, Ronnie Boylan and Jayette “Sis” Sumpter; siblings, Larry, Barry, “Dirty John” and Myra.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 1 p.m., a visitation will also be held on Saturday, opening up to the public at 11 a.m., until the service begins. Memorials have been established to the family and will be directed at a later date.
