Harry “Ike” LeMay, 74, of Oskaloosa, passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at his home in Evans, Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Harry Lee LeMay, son of Harry Glen and Betty Lucille (Jenkins) LeMay, was born January 29, 1950, in Knoxville, Iowa. Harry’s early years were spent on a farm south of Bellefountain Cemetery in western Mahaska County. The family moved to Arizona for two years while he was a youngster and returned to Iowa when he was ten. They lived in Oskaloosa briefly before settling in the Evans area, where Harry has since lived.
He was a 1968 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. His first job was with Pella Corp. He worked there for 32 years and retired at age 51 in 2001. For the first 20 years, he worked as a line technician; for the last 12 years, he worked in lumber plant maintenance. In his free time, Harry enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Harry married Denise Lee Stewart on May 30, 1970, in Eddyville, Iowa. She passed away on May 30, 1988.
Harry’s family includes his son, Jeff LeMay, and his companion, Mirza Lord, of Albia; three grandchildren: Rachel, Starfire, and Alanna LeMay. He is survived by a sister, Connie Sue (Harold) Barnes of Knoxville, and a brother, Raymond Roy (Marla) LeMay of Evans.
In addition to his wife of 18 years, Harry was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services for Harry will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bruce Rietveld of the Riverside Community Church in Knoxville officiating. Burial will be in Bellefountain Cemetery near Tracy. Visitation will begin after 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral chapel; the family will greet visitors from 4-6 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mahaska Health Foundation and directed to the Hospice Serenity House.
