James Lee West Jr., 83, of Ottumwa, died January 4, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.
He was born May 27, 1941 in Yadkin County, NC to James Lee and Frances Bunting West Sr. He married Linda Spragle December 23, 1966.
A graduate of Asheboro High School, he attended High Point College before serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim was a salesman working for Dad’s Root Beer, Strawhacker and Kohl Wholesale Grocers.
He had been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Ottumwa Noon Lions.
Surviving is his wife, Linda.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two aunts, Velma West and Bertha Bunting; and an uncle, James Bunting.
Visitation will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 8th at Reece Funeral Home. His family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends from 12 p.m. Thursday, January 9th until the time of the service.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, January 9th at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. Military honors conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice.
