Matthew “Marty” Crisp, age 62, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Wayne County Emergency Room.

Marty was born on June 4, 1962 in Sacramento, California, the son of Vernon Edward Crisp and Barbara “Babbie” Jean (Raney) Crisp. He attended schools in California. In June of 1982, Marty met the love of his life, Lisa Hackney. They remained friends until January of 1985 when they made it official. In August of the same year, Marty asked Lisa to be his wife. On February 12, 1991, Marty was united in marriage to Lisa.

Marty was a jack of all trades. He would often help the Amish community as well as anyone in need. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, working on trucks, and drove a figure 8 race car named Thunderstruck. Marty had a contagious smile and loved to make people laugh. He was also fond of R.C. Cars. He would fix them up and then wreck them, then fix them again and give them to his grandchildren so he could get a new one. Marty cherished every moment he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He always said “If we knew that grandkids would be so much fun, we would have had them first.”

Left to honor Marty’s memory are his wife, Lisa Crisp; his children, Dustin Matthew Crisp, Mindie Michelle Crisp, and Denise Crisp (David Lewis); grandchildren, Maddison Bolding, Lucas Crisp, Damien Crisp, Ayden Crisp, Zayne Crisp, Antonio Basaldua, Reinaldo Castro, Yessica Castro, Lewis Castro, Mackinze Cox (Brett Power), Shianne Cox (Harley Riddle), Cody Cox, Camilla McClain (Wyatt Hoover), Kyler McClain (Kimber Everett), Klayten McClain, and Calliope Lewis; his mother-in-law, Arlene Hackney; his great-grandchildren, Blake Casey, Layla Riddle and Stanley Riddle; his brother, Mike Tallent; his daughter-in-law, Danyale Crisp; as well as several extended family members and friends.

Marty is now in the loving arms of his parents, Vernon Crisp and Barbara “Babbie” Vorhees; his father-in-law, Ted Hackney; his son, Danny Crisp on March 26, 2015; his daughter, Summer Cox on February 26, 2018; and his sister, Sabra Hurst.

Graveside services for Marty will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour. Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 4:00-6:00PM. Memorials may be written to Lisa Crisp, to be determined at a later date, and can be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Crisp Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544. Condolences may be shared online at www.thomasfh.com or www.facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
