Joyce Marie Sample, 71, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on March 19, 2025 at her home. She was born on June 1, 1953 in Bloomfield to James T. and Mary Ilene McMains Padget. She married Larry Sample on November 5, 1971 at the Savannah Church in Davis County. The couple lived in Bloomfield and raised two children, Justin and Sonia.
Joyce graduated from cosmetology school and worked at the Pink Boutique in Bloomfield for several years before taking a job with Davis County Schools in the fall of 1985. She began her time at the school in the Alternative Program and eventually became the secretary to the athletic director. She was with the school system for over 30 years, retiring in 2017. Joyce loved working on crafts and painted many wood pieces to decorate around the house during different holiday seasons. She also loved to go camping with her husband and family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Sample; son, Justin (Jodie) Sample of Huxley, Iowa; daughter, Sonia McNurlen of Sigourney, Iowa; four grandchildren, Preston and Madi McNurlen, Emma and Taylor Sample; mother, Mary Padget of Bloomfield; brother, Kenny (Sherry) Padget of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Don Naftz officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 3-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Alzheimer’s Association and Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties.
