Mark A. McFarland, 68, of Rural Bloomfield, passed away peacefully under hospice care at his home in the beautiful sunroom he built. He was ushered into the arms of Jesus on the evening of Friday, April 11, 2025. He was born on February 5, 1957 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Herbert and Irene Millard McFarland. Mark married the love of his life, Cheryl Bankson, on May 6, 1977 in Ottumwa.

A 1975 graduate of Blakesburg High School, Mark proudly retired from the City of Bloomfield in 2023 after dedicating 30 years to his passion as the Water Superintendent OIC.

Surviving is his wife, Cheryl; son, Travis (Ashley) McFarland of Grimes, Iowa; daughter, Rachel (Brandon) Coffman of Bloomfield; and five grandchildren, Jacey and Maxim McFarland, Liam, Olivia, and Pierce Coffman.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy Warner; and an infant sister, Cathy Dianne McFarland.

Mark’s memory will live on through the entertaining tall tale stories that he has told, peaceful UTV rides through his grove of cedar trees, the beautiful white glow of party lights, the roar of a Harley on an open road, or a peaceful day at the lake.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Mark’s wish was to be cremated. A memorial in his name has been established to the Mayo Clinic and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to: Mark McFarland Memorial, 304 W. Jefferson St., Bloomfield, Iowa 52537.
