Mae Crook Galvin, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 106 at West Ridge Care Center in
Knoxville where she had resided for a short time.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville. Family will receive
friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held following the service for a continued time of visiting and sharing.
Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Knoxville Fire Department Station 31 or the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics Foundation.
Mae was born March 14, 1919, in Harvey, Iowa, the fifth child of Albert and Gladys Crooks. The children grew up in Knoxville attending Knoxville Schools. Mae graduated in 1939. On September 22, 1940, she married Garold L. Galvin in Missouri. In the next eight years Mae and Garold’s family grew with the addition of five children: Patsy, Dixie, Gary, Linda, and Nancy.
Mae enjoyed cooking and her home was always welcoming for friends and family. Sunday dinners were always a special time to
look forward to. Mae also enjoyed bowling and was part of a Maple Lanes Bowling team for many years. She was a huge fan of game shows and Lawrence Welk. She really loved all music and attended many musical festivals with Garold.
In 1959, she began working at Harrison’s Department Store, first as a floor clerk and then as bookkeeper. Mae enjoyed her time
serving people there until she retired at the age of 65. In later years she enjoyed reading, puzzles, scrabble, and family.
She is survived by three daughters: Patsy (Dan) Yates, Dixie Juve, and Linda Freshwaters; twelve grandchildren, 26 great
grandchildren; and 16 great great grandchildren; brother, Jack (Bonnie) Crook; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and
friends.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Garold; son, Gary; daughter, Nancy; parents: Albert and Gladys Crook; and seven
siblings. She will be missed by many who knew her for over 106 years.
