Joan R. Wickenkamp, daughter of Pauline and John Scott, was born in Oskaloosa, IA on July 11, 1958. She had three sisters, Paula Moore, Diane Dewitt, and Linda Williams. Joan was previously married to Edward Wickenkamp and together they had their son, Brandon.
Joan enjoyed working with her mom at Pella Corporation after high school graduation. And interwoven in her long-term career with Pella Corp, she took pride in working with Tasos’ and Bates Funeral Chapel.
She enjoyed family holidays at Diane and Bob’s and enjoyed early evening patio dinners at her mom’s place on South 2nd.
Joan enjoyed sharing stories from her childhood and retelling them with humor.
She took pleasure in hand-making crafts and finding antique goods from specialty shops and garage sales. She enjoyed thrifting with her niece, Robyn and friend, Patti.
Joan enjoyed vacations with her son, chaperoning his field trips, attending his soccer matches, and later visiting him in New York.
She enjoyed road trips, dancing, and attending concerts with friend, Toni.
Notably, she often found herself close to water; this included swimming at the lake and local pool, fishing with her companion, Joe, and flying to Hawaii with her mom in 2014. She had dreams of working on a cruise ship and living on the Florida Coast near the ocean.
She cared about her religion and other peoples’ happiness. She found joy in her friends and family and often found joy in stillness after her retirement.
As of May 18, 2025, Joan has passed on.
The family intends to hold a private celebration of life.
