RONNIE BELK
FREMONT – Ronnie Lee “Cowboy” Belk, 68, of 2859 Whitwell Ave. died at 5:10 p.m. January 14, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born December 10, 1948 in Iberia, MO to Henry C. and Zelphia Helton Belk. He married Judith Ann Selby September 19, 2010 after being together for 20 years.
Ronnie grew up in Missouri and had lived in South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming before moving to Ottumwa in 1978. He had worked as a Boilmaker for the Boilmaker Union Local #83 Kansas City.
He was an avid horseman, raising and breeding horses all of his life. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association for 25 years and had been a member of the Ottumwa Saddle Club.
Surviving is his wife, Judith; children, Raymond (Laverne) Belk, Rhonda (Randy) Nelson, Kerri (Jim) McCorkle, Ronnie Duane Belk, and Jodie (Junior) Polly; step-children, Danielle Lasley-Eakins, Melinda (Kenny) Baxter, Dustin (Ashley) Sanders, and Wesley (Kaylee) Young; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; two sisters, E. Darlene (Donald) Chrisman of St. Charles, MO, Virgie Ruth (Bill) Lane of Crocker, MO; a brother, Donald Gene Belk of Iberia, MO; his beloved five dogs, Sadie, Shrimp, Little Boy, Elvis and Suzie Q.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Johnnie Stark brothers, Clay Douglas Belk, Henry Pete Belk, Billy Edward Belk and David Dewayne Belk.
Funeral services will be 10:30 Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Township Cemetery in Fremont.
Visitation will begin 1 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
