CONNIE HOPKINS

OTTUMWA-Connie Elaine Hopkins, 74, of 1227 N. Fellows Ave. died at 2:45 a.m. February 18, 2017 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born November 29, 1942 in Ottumwa, IA to Robert and Kathryn Pickens Bankson.  She married Richard “Dick” Hopkins on April 30, 1960.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1960, she received her LPN degree at Indian Hills Community College.  She drove a school bus 21 years for Ottumwa and Davis Counties.  She started nursing as an LPN in 1997, working at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa.

Connie enjoyed line dancing, having taught in Iowa and while wintering in Florida. She enjoyed swimming, walking, biking, being outdoors, working crosswords and spending time with grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Dick; a son, Jeffrey Alan (Tracy) Hopkins of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Haleigh (Jason) Skaggs, Mariah and Nataliah Hopkins; three great grandchildren, Kennedy, Jordyn and Knox Skaggs and a brother, David Howard Bankson of Kansas City, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Stacy Hopkins and an infant daughter Carmen Rene’ Hopkins, a son, Tommy Dean Hopkins, a brother, David Olin Bankson and a sister, Judith Frueh.

Her body has been cremated.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Hendred officiating.  Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation with the family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
