EARL FINDLEY
OTTUMWA-Earl V. Findley, 90, of Ottumwa, died at 1:40 a.m. June 29, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born March 30, 1927 in Milan, IL to Roy Irwin and Mary Ann Bowes Findley. On September 6, 1947 Earl married Dorothy Louise Shepherd and she preceded him in death on June 15, 2011.
Earl was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wisconsin.
He had worked at Halls Candy factory, had worked over 20 years for John Morrell & Co. and had also worked for Shaul Cemetery and in construction.
Earl was a life time member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Surviving are his children, Linda Kowal of Ralston, NE, Sandra (J.W.) Mize of Blakesburg, Deb (Doc) Halladay of Cedar Rapids, Joyce (Tom) McElroy of Ottumwa, Gene Findley of Ottumwa and Rex (Stephan Bay) Findley of Washington, IA; 9 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons; three brothers, Clarence, Lawrence and James “Gene” Findley and two sisters, Dorothy Lathrop and Maxine Hoskins.
His body has been cremated.
Graveside services and inurnment will be 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery with Doug McEntire officiating. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
