Vernon L. Bone, 59, of Lancaster, MO, formerly of Ottumwa, died May 1, 2018 at the VA Central Iowa Health Care in Des Moines.
He was born January 12, 1959 in Ottumwa to Gerold and Beverly Eakins Bone. He married Carmen Jones on April 2, 1983 and they later divorced.
Vern was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from February 1976 to December 1977. He had been a resident of Lancaster, MO for the past 28 years.
Vern had worked for American Seat Belt in Palmyra, MO; for Iowa Beverage and for Excel on the line and later as a supervisor.
He performed in reenactments as a buck skinner. Vern liked to fish and hunt. He was a fan of NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt, St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Vern had started the Schuyler County NA program.
Surviving are his daughters, Rachael Renfrew (Leon) of Urbandale and Brittany Bone (Jason) of Des Moines; 2 grandchildren, Clayton Renfrew and Hadleigh Brewer; parents, Beverly (Richard) Blomgren of Nixa, MO; step-mother, Laura Essary Bone of Arkansas; sister, Diana Craney of Jefferson City, MO; brother, Christopher (April) Blomgren of Kahoka, MO; step-sister, Lisa Albright; nieces and nephews, Bridgette (Craig) Graham, Kaitlin (Don) Curran, Evan Blomgren and William Blomgren; great-nephew, James Curran.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerold Bone and grandparents.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Cremation will follow the services. Inurnment will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
