Maycel Charlotte Rowland, 96, of Ottumwa, died at 1:18 p.m. August 7, 2018 at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was born June 12, 1922 to Frank and Lulu Williams Hartman in Wapello County, Iowa. She married James Rowland on August 24, 1949 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa and he preceded her in death on January 25, 2011. Together they farmed and raised their children on their century farm on Route 5, north of Ottumwa.
Maycel graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1939, then attended the Iowa Success Business School. She was a member of St. Patrick Church, Altar & Rosary Society, and the Good Will Club. She worked at Haw Hardware and the C.B.&Q. Railroad.
Maycel enjoyed spending time with her family.
Maycel is survived by children Dale (Patty) Rowland of Blakesburg, Joan (Edward) Bogdan of Roscoe, IL., Joyce (Steve) Deitch of Ottumwa, Alan (Wendy Street) Rowland of Pella, and Linda (Jesse) Haines of Ottumwa; daughter-in-law, Ann Rowland of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Carissa (Jason), Chris (Lynea), Leon (Emily), Sarah (Jeff), Lisa (Jake), Jesica (Zac), Ben, Megan, Kelsey, Nicholas (Stephanie), Dala (Travis), Rachel, Amy, Pete (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Evan, Lathan, Ava, Anna, Aubrey, Vivian, Quinn, Will, Ethan, Kyle, Nicole, Blake, Hayden, Laney, Maeryn, Connor, Charlotte, Macy, Ian, Ava; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Larkin, Lois Hartman and Irene Rowland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Wayne Rowland; brothers, Jack, Dean, Dale and infant, Jean.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
