Bertie Lou Dlouhy Davidson was born July 27, 1923 in Monroe County, Kentucky to Otto and Etta Hestand King. Her childhood was spent in Oak Grove, TN where she developed a love for the state. It was a love that remained with her for the remainder of her life, and was passed on to her children. Bertie was a member of the greatest generation and spent time in school before entering the workforce as so many at that time did. She was united in marriage to Robert Dlouhy on February 9, 1943 in Owensboro, KY. Together they began a family and spent over 40 years together until Robert passed away in 1984. On May 5, 1990, Bertie married Carl Davidson and remained by each other’s side until Carl’s death in 2011. Bertie was a hard worker and spent over 40 year working at the Fairfield Glove Company. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed Quilting/Embroidery, baking, dancing, watching St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She cherished the time spent with family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and even her favorite four-legged companion, Casper. Bertie experienced many things in her 95 years, and leaves behind a legacy that will live on for many years to come.

Bertie was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Robert Dlouhy and Carl Davidson; two children, Gary Dlouhy and Penny Eklund; five siblings, Glen King, Garland King, Eugene, King, Ted King, and Eva Copass, and one son-in-law, Eddie Spees.

Left to honor her memory are four children, Dee Spees of Birmingham, IA, Bob Dlouhy of Fairfield, IA, Pat (Dennis) Davis of Batavia, IA, and Richard (Kristi) Dlouhy of Pinehurst, NC; a step daughter, Joyce (Leroy) Carey of Ottumwa, IA; her other half and twin sister, Bertha Greenwell of Cookeville, TN; two sisters-in-law, Mary Dlouhy of Hills, IA, Virginia Davidson of Batavia, IA; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, as well as many extended family and friends.
