Roy Rogers

Roy Charles Rogers, age 72, of Moravia, Iowa passed away Sunday, July 07, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Roy was born on May 25, 1947 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Dorothy Rogers.  He graduated from Albia High School.  He furthered his education in Ottumwa, and earned his degree in computers.  Following graduation, he worked in computer repair.

Roy was drafted into the United States Army on July 14, 1967 in Denver, Colorado.  He faithfully served his country in Vietnam, earning numerous medals.  He was honorably discharged on July 13, 1973.  After his service, he continued working in the computer repair business.

Roy’s work history varied throughout his lifetime.  He worked with a Home Improvement business, window and door installations jobs, and manufacturing jobs in his later years. Most recently, he worked at AYM in Albia for about four years.

Roy enjoyed rock hunting, especially gem stone hunting.  He was also fond of crafts, reading, kayaking and NASCAR, as well as various other sports.  He was united in marriage to Charlene “Charle” Elliott on August 7, 2017.

Left to honor Roy’s memory are his wife, Charle Elliott; his children, Lisa (Mark) Lanterman of New Liberty Township, Ohio, Jeff Rogers of Albia, and Jennifer (Richard) Thomas of Kansas City, Missouri; a step daughter, Nicole Marie Richardson; his siblings, Dean Rogers, Carolyn McAlister, and Betty Whippie; five step brothers and sisters;  six grandchildren, Spencer Lanterman, Paige Thomas, Malea Thomas, Bethany Rogers, Bridgette Rogers, and Brandon Rogers; as well as numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Dorothy Rogers; a sister, Charlotte Sterk; and a step son, Eddie Richardson.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:10 PM, Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Light of Life Church in Moravia, with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating.  Full Military Rites will be conducted prior to the service at 1:00PM at the Light of Life Church in Moravia. Burial will be held at a later time at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia.  Memorials have been established to the family of Roy Charles Rogers, and may be dropped off or mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
