Richard Perry Jones, age 84, of Moravia, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.
Richard was born on February 3, 1935 in Monroe County, Iowa, the son of Everett Perry and Ruby Mae (Hayworth) Jones. He graduated from Centerville High School. Richard was united in marriage to Ellen Adele Frazier on July 21, 1957 in Cowles, Nebraska, with their wedding reception held in Bladen, Nebraska. To this union, four children were born, Twila, Wayne, Tina and Wally.
After high school, Richard started working as a farmhand. He also worked in the construction field for a brief period of time. Richard and his family then moved back to Iowa, where he held several farmhand jobs. He later worked at the Centerville Foundry. Valuing a higher education, Richard enrolled in the Machine Technology Program at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. Following his completion of college, Richard and his family moved just north of Marshalltown. It was during this period of time, Richard worked in a factory in Grundy Center. He later worked in Marshalltown at Dunham-Bush, before relocating to southern Iowa, where he farmed until his retirement.
Richard enjoyed gardening, painting and working odd jobs. He loved fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all of his family.
Left to honor Richard’s memory are his wife of 63 years, Ellen Jones of Moravia; his children, Twila Chidester of Albia, Wayne Jones of Albia, Tina (Chris) Cook of Moravia, and Wally Jones of Moravia; seven grandchildren, Larry (Shea) Chidester, Robert McClurg, Ryan McClurg, Rachel McClurg, Caitlin Jones, Collin Jones, and Chelsea Jones; three great grandchildren, Alexis Chidester, Katelyn Chidester, Sarah Jo Chidester and one great grandchild on the way; his siblings, James (Carolyn) Jones, Sandy (George) Cordell, Alice Jones, and Everett “Junior” Jones; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ruby Jones; an infant brother, Donald; a still born great granddaughter; a brother Robert William Jones; and a brother who died during the Vietnam War, Lloyd Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30PM, Monday, September 16, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia with Pastor Theresa Powless officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday from 10:00AM-1:30PM at the Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, with the family greeting friends from 11:00AM-1:30PM. Memorials have been established to the Richard Jones family, to be determined at a later date, and may be dropped off or mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
