John Earl Hunt, 92, of Ottumwa, died August 5, 2016 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
He was born July 28, 1924 in Ottumwa to Fred and Olive Demmit Hunt. He married Vada Virginia Mowrer on August 7, 1948. She preceded him in death on January 18, 1995.
A 1942 graduate of Ottumwa High School, John worked for 32 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114, UAW Local #74 and he and his wife belonged to the Dudes & Dolls Square Dance club.
Surviving are his children, John A. Hunt of Ottumwa, Carol Hunt of Denver, CO, Janice Hunt Gottesman of Port St. Lucie, FL and Teresa (Victor) Vanderpol of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren, Scott Mason, Terra Mason, Lynette Harnage, Lisa Drilling, Zachary Vanderpol, Jacob Vanderpol and Elizabeth Hunt and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Hunt.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by family visitation until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or Heartland Humane Society, PO Box 1149, Ottumwa, IA 52501.
