Donald A. Cox, 72, of Ottumwa, died at 8:53 p.m. June 3, 2021 at home.
He was born December 6, 1948 in Ottumwa to Benjarmin and Mildred Jackson Cox. Don married Carolyn Brooks on December 30, 1972.
A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he had worked as a freelance carpenter before going to work in the maintenance department at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, retiring in 2012.
Don was a member of Local #767 Carpenters Union, Heartland Bootscooters and B.P.O. Elks #347. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed traveling and gambling with his wife, spending time with friends and family and especially being with his grandkids.
Surviving is his wife, Carolyn; their daughter, Dianna (Larry) Ambroson of Newton; four grandchildren, Derek (Alexxis) Ambroson, Ashley (Justin) Stravers, Abby Ambroson and Katy (Alek) Landwier; three great-grandchildren, Zoe Ambroson, Kyla Ambroson and Sawyer Breckenridge; siblings, Ida Houk, Cathy Burtlow, Terry (Nancy) Cox and Dennis (Adrian) Cox all of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Judy Amason, Rose Palm, Tommy Cox and Benny Cox.
His body has been cremated.
The family will be present to greet friends 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 11th at Reece Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
