Carroll Rhine

Carroll Eugene Rhine (82) of Albia, Iowa passed away Monday, December 16, 2024 at the Monroe County Hospital.

Carroll was born December 30, 1941 in New Sharon, Iowa to Leonard and Mary Rhine. He attended school in New Sharon and graduated in 1959. Carroll was an excellent athlete and active in sports throughout school and also worked part-time. Carroll married his high school sweetheart, Julia Stone on November 26, 1960. They moved to Albia when Carroll started a new job at Gambles Hardware on the Albia square, where he worked for many years. He worked in several different businesses during his career, including Albia Realty with friend and colleague Ray Davis, sold insurance at Johnson Insurance and later joined First Iowa State Bank where he spent many happy years both in the Albia and Eddyville locations. Carroll loved his “bank family” and continued to work there part-time until earlier this year. Carroll was active with the Albia Chamber of Commerce, Monroe County Fair Board, Robert Bates Community Foundation and was a member of Cornerstone Church of Albia, Iowa.

Carroll is survived by his wife Julia, three children, Steve Rhine (Tanya) of Eldon, Missouri, Curtis Rhine of New York, New York, and April Rhine of Des Moines, Iowa, four grandchildren, Isaiah (Megan) Rhine, Sara Rhine, Taylor Paxton, Riley Paxton; four great granddaughters, and sister, Janet Johnson of Pella, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Don Rhine.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday December 19, 2024 at the Cornerstone Community Church of Albia, Iowa with Pastor Ryan Smith officiating. Visitation will also be on Thursday from 9-11 AM at the church. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in New Sharon. Memorials can be directed to Cornerstone Community Church.
