Larry Bottorff

Larry D. Bottorff, 87, of Ottumwa, died December 15, 2024 at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa.

He was born January 15, 1937 in Ottumwa to Lewis and Flossie Davis Bottorff. Larry married Margaret “Maggie” Davis on October 24, 1959 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa.

A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he served in the U.S. Army from November 1959 to April 1962. Larry had worked at John Morrell & Co., Wausau Homes, Hormel and for 12 years as a custodian for Ottumwa Schools, retiring in January 1999.

Larry was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and college sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most importantly, he dedicated his time to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their school programs, fair showings and sporting events.

Surviving is his wife, Maggie; their children, Jim Bottorff of Ottumwa, Don (Lisa) Bottorff of Davenport, Theresa (Todd) DeWitt of Blakesburg, Mike (Barb) Bottorff of Ottumwa; Kayleen Shearer of Ottumwa and Lisa (Scott) Siefker of Ottumwa; grandchildren, Ashley Bottorff, Jeffrey, Tyler, Gabe and Bridget DeWitt, Katie and Courtney Bottorff, Callie (John) Simpson, Laney Shearer, Grace Larkin, Nate and Bryce Siefker; great-granddaughters, Brinley Bottorff, Oakley, Blakely and Bristol DeWitt; and a brother, Vern (Linda) Bottorff of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Alan Shearer; a brother, Harry Bottorff and a sister, Carolyn Buster.

Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 18th, at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 18th, at the funeral home with the family present to greet friends following until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 19th, at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Ben Snyder presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Welcome Home Soldier Monument in Albia.
