Norine Breon

Norine Deforest Breon, 87, of Ottumwa, died December 22, 2024 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

She was born October 8, 1937 in Amsterdam, NY to Floyd Harris and Mary Dmochowski Deforest. She married Max E. Breon June 24, 1960 and he preceded her in death May 19, 2023.

Norine was educated in Amsterdam, graduating from Willbur Lynch High School in 1955. She attended American International College in Springfield, MA and was employed by New England Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. She met her beloved husband, Max Breon, when he was stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, MA. After serving 4 years in Anchorage, AK, Norine and Max returned to Hedrick where they raised their children, Michael D. and Kyle M. Breon. Norine graduated from Indian Hills Community College in 1985 and in 1992, the family moved to Ottumwa.

While living in Ottumwa, Norine was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Civil War Round Table and Ottumwa Public Library Friends. Norine was a member of the Iowa Artists and volunteered at the Ottumwa Public Library. In 2007, the couple moved to San Antonio, TX where Norine volunteered at 3 libraries, Nix Medical Center, the Institute of Texas Cultures and Christian Assistance Ministry. She also enjoyed making over 200 baby quilts and many caps for premature babies through Threads of Love and helped make quilts for Lutheran World Relief with her church, Mt. Calvary Lutheran.

Surviving is her daughter, Kyle Breon (Sam Ehret) of Ottumwa; a daughter-in-law, Kandi (Craig) Gordy; 3 grandsons, Kevin Stalder, Tony Breon and Nathan (Hannah) Ehret; great-grandchildren, Sloan Ehret, Merlin Ehret, a baby Ehret on the way and Christopher Stalder; sisters-in-law, Ila Breon and Jackie Breon both of Hedrick; many close cousins, nieces and nephews and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Breon; brothers-in-law, Ervin Breon, Kenneth Breon and Ross (Janice) Breon; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Bob) Meyer; and nephew, Danny (Liz) Breon.

Her body has been cremated. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 2nd at Reece Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 3rd at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor James Preus officiating. Inurnment will be in McCormick Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Norine’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
