Donald Beck, 96, of Hedrick, went to be with his Lord on December 29, 2024. He was a man of faith who will be greatly missed.
Don was born on October 15, 1928 to Burdette and Jennie Koch Beck in Belle Plaine, Iowa. At an early age, he began working on the family farm with his father. In 1947, he graduated from Belle Plaine High School, where he was active in FFA, even holding state office. He attended Iowa State University for a semester before he was needed back home on the farm.
On February 14, 1948, Don married Ruth Chacey in Belle Plaine. For 68 years they were partners on the farm in Hedrick. Don was a hard worker all his life. Besides grain farming, he raised livestock and did custom work (corn shelling and harvesting). Don also bought, ground, and sold corn cobs for many years. In later years, he grew orchards and large gardens, and generously shared fruits and vegetables.
Don and Ruth were founding members of Grace Family Church in Ollie, Iowa. Don was heavily involved in church activities. He was also a member of Gideons International and Lions Club International. He held various offices and served on numerous projects.
Don is survived by his daughter, Delores (Donn) Stiner of Zion, IL, and his son, Roger (Denise) Beck of Sigourney, IA; five grandchildren, Beth, Erica, Danny, Roger, and Phil; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and special friend Helen Hedlund.
