Robert Leroy McCall Jr., 89 of Ottumwa died at 2:52 a.m. April 18, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.

He was born October 31, 1935 in Ottumwa to Robert L. and Edythe Collett McCall Sr. He married Shirley A. Owings December 18, 1955 and she preceded him in death February 9, 1999.

A 1953 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Bob served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1993. Bob was a member of UAW Local #74 and served as the president of the union for 18 years.

Bob was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and served on the Ottumwa Planning and Zoning committee for several years. He raced cars for 18 years and loved motorcycles. Bob enjoyed golfing, bowling on a league, and swimming in his pool. He loved traveling with his wife and most of all loved all of his grandchildren.

Surviving are his children, Sherry McCall of Ottumwa, Tammy (Kent) Yarnell of Birmingham, IA, Dennis (Cheryl) McCall of Chesapeake, VA and Robert (Janet) McCall III of Pheonix, AZ; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie (Chris) Deiters, Stacey (Rob) Galey, Barry Yarnell, Mariah McCall, Joshua (Billie Jean) McCall, Cody (Sara) McCall, Jake McCall, Brandon McCall, Alexis Fox, Samantha Fox and Ashten King; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; sisters, Shirley Holman of Ottumwa and Cindy Musgrove of Cheyanne, WY.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jolene Frueh.

Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Monday April 21st at Reece Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday April 22nd at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military honors conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. 

Memorials may be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.

The family would like to give a special thank you to his caregivers, Deanne Frederick and the Frederick family, Stephanie Monohon, and Joyce Coberly, Good Samaritan Society and Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
