PHYLLIS UTTERBACK
OTTUMWA – Phyllis Jean Utterback, 86, of 10733 100th St. died at 10:55 p.m. January 7, 2017 at her home.
She was born May 3, 1930 in Ottumwa to Ralph Herman and Ethel Mae Hills Birkinbine. She married A. Harold Utterback Jr. on September 9, 1952. He preceded her in death November 20, 1995.
A graduate of Agency High School, she earned her LPN from St. Joseph School of Nursing. Phyllis then worked as a nurse at Ottumwa Regional Health Center for 32 years.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the NCHA. She enjoyed camping and spending time at Lake Rathbun with her family. She enjoyed quilting and sewing and was obsessed about the color red.
Surviving is a son, Steven (Pam) Utterback of Arvada, CO; three daughters, Marcia (Leonard) Davis of Atkins, Colleen (Randi) Beeler of Ottumwa and Marla (Mark) Nickel of Ottumwa; 6 grandchildren, Melanie, Andrea, Melissa, Adam, Molly and Erik; 7 great -grandchildren; a brother, Alvin (Jan) Birkinbine of Des Moines and her dog, Gigi.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jim Birkinbine and Ivan Birkinbine and a sister, Janet Hahn.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating.
Inurnment will be in McCormick Cemetery at later date.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
