Francis Fye

Francis L. Fye, 94, of Ottumwa, formerly of Ollie, died at 11:45 a.m. March 30, 2018 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

He was born January 11, 1924 in Ollie to Delbert A. and Mildred Weber Fye Sr.  He married Ida Mae Haines on September 22, 1946.  They have been married over 71 years.

Francis was a graduate of Ollie High School where he played saxophone in the band.  He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy and played in the Naval Band.  He was Seaman First Class with the P.T. boats in the South Pacific and later participated in pilot training at the Ottumwa Naval Air Base.

Francis and Ida Mae moved to a farm north of Ollie where they farmed and raised their family.  Francis worked construction as a heavy equipment operator and was a 50 plus year member of I.U.O.E. Local #234B out of Des Moines.  Part of his work was in Greenland on the first Distant Early Warning System across North America.  While away his wife, Ida Mae took care of the farm, livestock, milking and their four children.

He was a 50 year member of Ollie Baptist Church, Past Master and Past Treasurer Emeritus of Justice Masonic Lodge #230 A.F. & A.M. where he was a member for over 70 years, a member of Ollie Order of Eastern Star #549 where he was Past Worthy Patron several times and Past Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of Iowa and Davenport Consistory.  He was also member and past president of the Mt. Pleasant Antique Car Club, a member of American Legion Post #504 in Richland and Ottumwa Radio Controlled Flyers for several years.  He also wrote an autobiography.

Surviving is his wife, Ida Mae; his children, John L. Fye, Joel A. Fye (Paula), Francine K. (Ed) Paxton, all of Ottumwa and Vickie L. Garrison of Minneapolis, MN; 3 grandchildren, Dylan (Allison) Garrison, Derek (Amy) Fye, Gage White Buffalo; 4 great-grandchildren, Lincoln and August Garrison, Harper and Halle Fye; a brother, Delbert A. (Carolyn) Fye Jr. of Ollie and a sister, Arloine (Roland) McCreery of Ottumwa; two nephews, D.A. Fye III and Tracey Fye.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant twin brothers, Delbert and Delmer.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Frosty VanVorst officiating.  Military services will be conducted.  Cremation will follow the services.  Inurnment will be in Ollie Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Ollie Baptist Church, Justice Masonic Lodge #230 A.F. & A.M. or Ollie Order of Eastern Star #549.

Ben Zugg

Ben Zugg, 70, of Oskaloosa, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa.

Benjamin Allen Zugg was born May 1, 1947, in Burlington, Iowa to Arthur Ray and Lela (Werner) Zugg. As a youngster, Ben’s family moved to Thornburg, where he finished grade school. He then attended Tri-County High School and graduated with the class of 1965. He was drafted into Army in July 1965 and served with the military police.  Following his discharge in August 1967, Ben continued to service with Iowa National Guard until July of 1972. He married Betty J. Bunnell, July 11, 1969, and they made their home in Eddyville until 1975, when they moved to Oskaloosa.

Ben began his career with Clow Valve in 1968.  He worked in the machine shop as a tool and die maker, where he was well respected for machining skills and overall capabilities by  his supervisors and his peers. Ben served as president for 30 years of the Local Lodge #1498 International Association of Machinist & Aerospace Workers. He also served as secretary/treasurer of the district union.  In his spare time, Ben enjoyed flying remote control airplanes, snowmobiling, golfing and playing with his toy trains.

His family includes his wife, Betty Zugg of Oskaloosa; a daughter Melissa Curtiss of Oskaloosa; two granddaughters, Alyssa and Krystianna Buesch; and a brother, William A. Zugg of Marshalltown, Iowa.

In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert and Homer Zugg.

As was his wish, Ben’s body has been cremated.  A private graveside memorial service will be held at University Park Cemetery in University Park, Iowa.  Memorial contributions should be made to the family and will be designated at a later time. Ella Marie Richmond, age 69 of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hopsitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services at 3PM, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory with Father Bill Hubmann officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Willard “Smokey” Waldo Miller Jr., age 66, of Ottumwa, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

David Belger

David Paul Belger, 79, of Agency died April 7, 2018 at his home.

He was born October 30, 1938 in Ottumwa to Rev. Paul and Verla Forbes Belger.  He married Cassie Gruwell  on February 7, 1991.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1957, he attended Indian Hills Community College and served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 21 years.

David owned and operated Belger’s Reloading, worked 17 years at Lowenberg Bakery, 10 years for Burlington Northern Railroad and 14 years in maintenance at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center, from where he retired.

He was a member of Ottumwa Baptist Temple.

Surviving is his wife, Cassie; 5 sons, Paul L. Belger of Ottumwa, David C. (Stephanie) Belger of Soldotna, AK, Darin J. Belger of Ankeny, Derek A. Belger of Ottumwa and John D. Belger of Altoona; 4 daughters, Linda M. (Marvin) Stein of Fremont, Verla A. (Doug) Kirk of Oskaloosa, Pamela S. (Jeremy) McClurg of Fremont and Destria D. Belger of Ottumwa; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Travis Decker officiating.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties.

Phil Palmer

Phil L. Palmer, 37, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Ottumwa, died suddenly on April 8, 2018 in Minneapolis, MN.

He was born July 7, 1980 in Ottumwa to Michael and Trudy Speer Palmer.  He married Carree Iseman on March 20, 2010.

Phil grew up in Japan and Italy and lived in Bloomfield for a short time before moving to California.    He was a graduate of Monte Vista High School in San Diego.  He lived primarily in Ottumwa and Oskaloosa, and had also lived in Wyoming and Louisiana before recently moving back to Oskaloosa.  Phil was a 2014 graduate of Buena Vista University.

Phil had worked for Osky Dental, Carter’s Steel in Oskaloosa and currently working for Mistras, inspecting natural gas refineries.  He considered his best job being a dad.

He enjoyed fishing, BBQ, making hot wings, traveling and hunting.  Phil had a black belt in tae kwon do.

Surviving is his wife, Carree; his children, Madison, Hannah, Emma, Gracie-Jo, Pennelope and Cash; his father, Mike (Misty) Palmer of Ottumwa;  brothers, Shad Palmer  and Sky-lee Chrisman of Ottumwa; grandparents, Ray and Florence Palmer of Ottumwa; mother-in-law, Cindy Merrill of Brighton and brother-in-law, Eli Lynn of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Trudy and Paul Retacco; grandparents, Harry and Betty Speer; brother, Michael Chrisman.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Morrison officiating.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to his family for his children’s education.

Rosemary Meeker

Rosemary A. Meeker, 68, of Ottumwa, died at 10 a.m. April 8, 2018 at her home.

She was born May 17, 1949 in Ottumwa to Charles and Marie Giles Jones.  She married Dale Eugene Meeker on October 8, 1966.

Rosemary was a homemaker and a mother, and loved being with her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband, Dale; two sons, Brian Meeker (Chanda Marberry) and Todd (Amanda) Meeker both of Sterling, CO; 11 grandchildren, Alliah,  Noelle, Kyla, Nicholas, Keri, Phoebe, Brodee, Zachary, Devon, Coleton and Cody; siblings, David (Becky) Jones and Ronnie (Barb) Jones both of Ottumwa, Rozella (Steve) Spangler of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Donna McSparen and an infant great-grandson.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. James H. Wakelin officiating.  Cremation will follow the services.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Robert Ramsey

Robert “Jim” Ramsey, 86, of Keosauqua, Iowa passed away on April 13, 2018 at his home. He was born on February 24, 1932 in Birmingham, Iowa to Rex and Mildred Black Ramsey. He graduated from Birmingham High School in 1949. Jim married Norma Lou Loeffler at the Douds Bible Baptist Church. She preceded him in death on May 19, 1989.

Jim was a veteran of the United Stated Air Force, serving for four years during the time of the Korean War. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time at the river bottom. Jim was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved his family deeply and his favorite moments were spent camping with his great-grandchildren.

He is survived by a son, Mark Ramsey; a daughter, Diana (Todd) Gaskell; five grandchildren, Beth (Juston) Kitzman, Amy (Jamie) Gravett, Holly Gaskell, Kyndra Ramsey, Emily Borgomainer; five great-grandchildren, Cody Kitzman, Kaylee Kitzman, Hunter Kitzman, Cyrus Gravett, Bentley Gravett; a brother, Vernie (Doris) Ramsey;  and two sisters, Mary Bagby and Kathy Shelangoski.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; and a sister, Nancy Craff.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. A visitation with family present will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 and will continue until the time of the service. Burial with military rites will follow the service in Kilbourne Cemetery in rural Birmingham, Iowa. Dr. Jay Carl Heitsman

  Dr. Jay Carl Heitsman, 64, of Ottumwa was a husband, father, Papa and beloved pediatrician of many. He went to be with his heavenly father at 10:20 a.m. April 14, 2018 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in the care of many loving hands.

He was born November 14, 1953 in Oskaloosa to J. Cornell and Opal Richardson Heitsman. He married Phyllis Showman on December 6, 1973.

A graduate of Oskaloosa High School in 1971 and William Penn University in 1974, he graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1978, and there served his residency in pediatrics. In 1981 he opened his private practice in Ottumwa. In 2011 he started working at the Jefferson County Medical Arts Clinic where he was still seeing patients. He greatly enjoyed his work, going above and beyond for many of his patients. He had a wonderful impact on generations of kids.

Jay loved to create and be in the outdoors. There was a project he was always working on. The tree carved into Chief Wapello, located at the entrance of Beach Ottumwa was donated from Jay’s land. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Jodie (Davis) Eidahl of Solon; two sons, Josh (Stephanie) Heitsman of Princeton and Jesse Heitsman of Ottumwa; six grandchildren, True, Trin, Trea, Jace, Jax and Saylor; a sister, Karen Heitsman Ray of Oskaloosa; his mother-in-law, Doris Showman of Oskaloosa; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Irvin) Hartley of Ottumwa and Connie (Merle) Miller of Oskaloosa; three nephews, Clayton, Michael and Jim.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Lyle Showman.

His body has been cremated. A time for friends to greet his family will be held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Jefferson County Health Center Foundation in memory of Dr. Jay Heitsman for pediatric equipment or to Ottumwa Police Department for Elementary Bike Helmet Safety Program.

Gary Parker

Gary Wayne Parker, 78, of Douds, Iowa went to be with his Lord on April 18, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 4, 1940 to Louie Sr. and Bessie Winters Parker in Bonaparte, Iowa. He graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1958. Gary married Selma Smith on July 3, 1960 at Harrisburg Baptist Church. Together Gary and Selma raised three daughters.

Gary worked several years for Bluebird Midwest and previously at the Fairfield Glove Factory.  He was an active member of the Zion Bible Church. He was a boy scout leader and taught Bible School and Sunday School along with his wife, Selma. Gary enjoyed building things and always had a project that he and Selma were working on. He spent many hours as a mentor to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Teaching them how to build things, use tools and how to fish. He was known for his delicious breakfasts cooked over a campfire stove, especially his pancakes. Gary loved camping, fishing and especially loved spending time with his family.  He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Selma; three daughters, Kimberly (Kenny) Yates of Revere, Missouri, Brenda (Kenny) Halls of Douds, Iowa, Carla (Kurt) Mertens of Houghton, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Khela Lovell, Stephanie Halls, Camilla DaVolt, John Quintin Kite, Darian Mertens, Dylan Mertens, Sierra Mertens, Makayla Mertens; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer Tipton, David Yates; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barb Troutman, Beverly (Daniel) Maderis; two brothers, Ronald (Kimberly) Parker and Richard (Lori) Parker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stillborn son; two brothers, Louie Parker, Jr., Donald Parker; a sister, Carolyn Morris; and a granddaughter, Shyla Mertens.

Per Gary’s wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Zion Bible Church with Pastor Phil Ross officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Zion Bible Church and will continue until the time of the service. Memorial contributions in Gary’s honor may be made to HCI Hospice of Mount Pleasant or the Zion Bible Church and may be left at the church or mailed to Selma Parker, 19594 Rte V64, Douds, IA 52551. Vesta Howk

Vesta D. Howk, 94, passed away April 21, 2018 at her home.

She was born Christmas day, December 25, 1923, to Paul and Marie Boley Ruby.  She grew up in Fairfield, IA, but moved with her parents to Ottumwa in 1938.  She married Bill Howk on January 31, 1942.  He preceded her in death August 16, 2000.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1941, she was an employee of J.C. Penney for over 30 years.

Vesta was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and traveling.

She was a member of Northgate Alliance Church.

Surviving are a son, Dick (Ruthie) Howk of Hot Springs, AR; two granddaughters, Mandi Bohlen and Carrie Riley both of Hot Springs, AR; 6 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary (Bud) Northup of Fairfax, IA.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Howk; a brother, Glen Ruby; and a sister, Ella Ruth Buchholz.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Shaul Cemetery with Rev. Jim Eschenbrenner officiating.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northgate Alliance Church.

Harriett McDonald

Harriett McDonald, age 82, went to be with the lord on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

Harry Haupt

Harry Charles Haupt, age 74, passed away April 24, 2018, at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa, after a short illness. He was born Sep. 24, 1943, in Nashville, TN, to Joseph Charles Haupt and Alice Francis Haupt and he is survived by his brother Dr. David E. Haupt and his wife Susan T. Haupt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Harry was a brilliant student, excelling in the science and music. During the space race of the 1950’s he developed an interest in amateur rocketry, setting an altitude record of 20,500 ft when he was 15 years old. In one rocket he launched a worm roughly 1000 ft and returned it to earth. The passenger survived the trip alive and well. Harry was on the front page of the Des Moines Sunday Register, Picture Magazine, Feb. 8, 1959, and earned the nickname of «Rocketship Harry» in High School, in Spencer, Iowa.

In music Harry excelled on the piano and the trombone at an early age. At age 18 he auditioned and was accepted into the United States Air Force Band, the one known as the President’s Band in Washington DC, where he served honorably from 1961-1965. On one tour, though still a teenager, he played a trombone solo with the band.

While in the service, he attended American University in Washington, and later the University of Iowa.

As a civilian Harry served for several years as a mail carrier in Washington DC. Later he was a taxi driver in San Francisco, and would often brag that he knew every address in the city. Harry also spent a great deal of time in Europe, especially France, and one of his greatest interests was speaking and reading French.

He was the first person hired at the Oskaloosa Pizza Ranch in 2003, where he loved the work and was still employed at the time of his death.

Harry was a loving, caring person, who would do anything to help others.

A funeral service for Harry will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating.  Burial will be in University Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, at the funeral chapel; the family will greet visitors from 5-6 p.m. on Friday evening. Doug Slycord

Doug Slycord, 56, of Oskaloosa passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, at his home in Oskaloosa.

Douglas Jay Slycord, son of Willard Levi and Rita Louise (Hughes) Slycord, was born October 23, 1961, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  Doug grew up in Oskaloosa where he attended school. He married Melinda Walker, they later divorced. He worked as a security guard at Cargill for 27 years and retired in 2008 because of his health.  He enjoyed Hawkeye sports and hunting coons with his father-in-law.

Doug’s family includes his sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Robert Medlin of Oskaloosa; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Veral Slycord of Adel, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by two brothers: Allan and Craig Slycord; a niece, Julie Handy; and a nephew, Eric Slycord.

Loren Carter

Loren Carter, 76, of Sully passed away early Tuesday morning, April 24, 2018, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella, Iowa.

Loren Gale Carter, one of six children born to Raymond and Laurina (Tessendorf) Carter, was born January 4, 1942, at rural Lehigh, Iowa. His parents later moved from their home near Eldora, Iowa to Knoxville, Iowa.  They would later move to a farm near Bussey, Iowa known as the old Buxton town site. Loren attended Bussey High School where he played football. As a young man, he lived and worked in northern Iowa close to a where his maternal grandmother lived.  At age 23, he returned to the Bussey area and began working for Pella Concrete Contractors. His family attended Union Liberty Church east of Bussey, which is where he met his future wife, Sheryl Lynne Parker. August 6, 1966, they were married at Union Liberty Church. A few years later, they moved to the Sully area where Loren worked as a farmhand for Ernest Eysink, who farmed southwest of Sully, from 1969 to 1975. He then worked for the city of Sully and Pella Concrete Contractors until 1978, when he  began a career with Vermeer Manufacturing that lasted for 31 ½ years until he retired in 2009.  Loren was a member of the Sully Community Church for over 48 years where he served on the church board and as a youth group leader. He also served on the Sully Town Council and as a school board member for the Lynnville-Sully Schools. As a young father, he coached his son’s Little League teams.  Loren relished his time in nature, and for over 30 years, he cut and split the wood to heat their home. His family cherished the many wood cutting times they enjoyed together, which sometimes included a lunch of beef stew. Loren loved caring for his strawberry patch, keeping it weeded, and harvesting, stemming and freezing every berry himself. He planted a peach orchard which gave the family many gallons of delicious White Southern Peaches. For a time, Loren enjoyed bike riding either by himself or with his family and rode on several Vermeer Bike Trips. He enjoyed fishing in the North Skunk River and also in Canada with his brothers and son. He also enjoyed many trips to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, visiting family.  Loren cherished the time he could spend with his children, grandchildren, and extended family and was a rock and an oasis of peace to them and his wife. Loren had a humble heart and was always giving and generous in whatever he did.

Loren’s family includes his wife, Sheryl Carter of Sully; a daughter, Susan (Mark) Brouwer of Santa Rosa, CA; two sons: Wes (Dana) Carter and Chris (Lisa) Carter, both of Silver City, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Nic, Chelsae, Patrick, Finley, Christopher, Sarah, Katie, Briley, Jessica and Erica; brothers: Larry (Beth) Carter of Lusby, Maryland; Lawrence (Norma) Carter of Knoxville, Bob (Sherry) Carter of Steamboat Springs, CO and Gaylor (Dorothy) Carter of Harvey; plus numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Loren was preceded in death by a sister, Ramona.

Memorial Service for Loren will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday morning, April 27, at the Sully Community Church with Pastor Jerry Morningstar officiating.  Burial will be held privately at Pringle Cemetery east of Bussey, Iowa. Memorial contributions can be given to the Sully Community Church Mission Fund. Langkamp Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements. Jayne Carole Ann Reynolds departed this physical world on April 24, 2018, at the age of 63.  She will live on in our hearts, and we will forever remember her infectious laugh and sweet smile.

If you would like to pay her your respects and wish her a final goodbye, please attend her Celebration of Life service at 11AM, Monday, April 30, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Bill Hubmann officiating.  Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque at a later date.  A visitation will take placeSunday, April 29, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with family greeting friends from 1-4PM.  Memorials have been established to the Grandchildren’s Education Fund and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544. Wilma Ver Steegh

Wilma Ver Steegh, 89 of Pella and formerly of Oskaloosa passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at the Cottages in Pella, Iowa.

Wilma Irene Ver Steegh, daughter of Arie and Patrina (Boender) Vander Linden, was born April 17, 1929, in New Sharon, Iowa.  She married Richard John Terpstra, September 20, 1946, at the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. They made their home on a farm near New Sharon, and Wilma stayed very busy as a homemaker, mother of four children and farmer’s wife.  Richard passed away after 37 years of marriage, July 15, 1984. Wilma was blessed to find love a second time, she married Raymond Ver Steegh, January 4, 1992, and they made their home in Oskaloosa. He passed away, March 17, 2014. Wilma was a member of Central Reformed Church since age 18.

Wilma’s hobbies included sewing and quilting.  In her younger years she sewed many clothing items for her family, and as she got older, she continued to bless family and friends with many beautiful quilts and items made from quilted fabric.  Wilma used her talents generously, providing a baptismal quilt to each child at her church for many many years. She also served in the Helping Hands Club and on the worship and decorating committees at church: creating pulpit drapes and gifts for the congregation on special occasions.  

Wilma’s family includes her children and their spouses: Sandra and Ron Miller of Cedar Rapids, Rick and Diane Terpstra of Pella, Randy and Jolynn Terpstra of Cedar Falls and Doug and Bev Terpstra of Pella; her step-children and their spouses: Keith & Debbie Ver Steegh of Des Moines, Barbara & Randy Sterling of Rose Hill and Evelyn Ver Steegh of Des Moines; her nine grandchildren: Holly Miller (Chris Karr) of Chicago, IL, Bridgette (Brent) Hardesty of Pella, Jennifer (Justin) Parker of Grimes, Brad (Deanna) Terpstra of Pella, Tyler Terpstra of Ankeny, Matthew Terpstra of Chicago, IL, Tara (Dusty) McClain of Heath, Ohio, Nick Terpstra of Cedar Falls and Linden Terpstra of Charlotte, NC; ten great-grandchildren; and her sisters: Hazel Klein of Oskaloosa, Mildred Wenger of Columbia, MO, and Lena Patterson of Oskaloosa.

In addition to both of her husbands, Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters: Pauline Spain, Betty Springer, Catherine De Booy, Bernice Bais and three infant sisters.

Funeral Services for Wilma will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Rev. Jon Nelson officiating.  A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. before the service, in the east lounge of the church. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m., Monday evening.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Central Reformed Church. Vernon Bone

Vernon L. Bone, 59, of Lancaster, MO, formerly of Ottumwa, died  May 1, 2018 at the VA Central Iowa Health Care in Des Moines.

He was born January 12, 1959 in Ottumwa to Gerold and Beverly Eakins Bone.  He married Carmen Jones on April 2, 1983 and they later divorced.

Vern was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from February 1976 to December 1977.  He had been a resident of Lancaster, MO for the past 28 years.

Vern had worked for American Seat Belt in Palmyra, MO; for Iowa Beverage and for Excel on the line and later as a supervisor.

He performed in reenactments as a buck skinner.  Vern liked to fish and hunt.  He was a fan of NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt, St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Vern had started the Schuyler County NA program.

Surviving are his daughters, Rachael Renfrew (Leon) of Urbandale and Brittany Bone (Jason) of Des Moines; 2 grandchildren, Clayton Renfrew and Hadleigh Brewer; parents, Beverly (Richard) Blomgren of Nixa, MO; step-mother, Laura Essary Bone of Arkansas; sister, Diana Craney of Jefferson City, MO; brother, Christopher (April) Blomgren of Kahoka, MO; step-sister, Lisa Albright; nieces and nephews, Bridgette (Craig) Graham, Kaitlin (Don) Curran, Evan Blomgren and William Blomgren; great-nephew, James Curran.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerold Bone and grandparents.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Cremation will follow the services.  Inurnment will be in  Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.

Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to Welcome Home, Inc. in Columbia, MO.
