Dean Coltrain, age 79 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Friday, September 02, 2016 at Centerville Specialty Care.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sale Cemetery near Moravia.  A visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 9 AM-10:30 AM.  Memorials have been established to Care Initiatives Hospice and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.

E. Kendall Roberts, 94, of Keosauqua died at 6:04 P.M. Sunday September 4, 2016, at Jefferson County Health Center. He was born March 1, 1922 in Albia to Clyde and June Watkins Roberts. He married Dorothy Esther Siemon on June 14, 1944 in Fairfield and they celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2014.

Kendall was a 1941 graduate of Albia High School. He and his family moved to Keosauqua where they operated the Roberts Super Valu grocery store.  He served in the United States Armored Forces from 1942-1946 with active duty in the European Theater.  He was employed by the Van Buren County Farm Service upon returning from the war.  In 1958 he started employment for the Iowa Department of Transportation from which he retired in 1985 as Maintenance Supervisor.  Ken was a Firemanship training instructor for Iowa State College, Ames for 12 years and as a Red Cross First Aid instructor for 46 years.  He was a proud blood donor of 12 ½ gal for the Red Cross. After retirement from the DOT, Kendall assisted Robert Pedrick at the Funeral Home.  Kendall was a lifetime member of the Keosauqua Christian Church serving in numerous offices.  He was a 71 year member of the Beer-Barker Post No.113, American Legion in Keosauqua having been awarded a life-time membership from his post. He served as First District Commander and State Department Vice Commander.  He was a member of the Van Buren County Safety Committee, Van Buren Co. Farm Bureau, Keosauqua Commercial Club and was county chairman of the United Fund of Iowa.  He served on the Keosauqua Volunteer Fire Department for 39 years and was the Fire Chief for 25 years. While the special hobby that he enjoyed for years was golfing, his favorite activity was cheering on his grandchildren in their sports activities and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his children, Paul Roberts (Becky), Maureen Sedlacek (Mark) and Gloria Sprouse (Rod) all of Keosauqua and Alan Roberts (Sue) of Mountain Home, Idaho, 14 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.  Friday, September 9, 2016 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Ron Follmer officiating.  Visitation will open at 2 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Burial will be in the Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua with military rites by Beer-Barker Post No.113.  Memorials to Beer Barker Post No. 113 American Legion Post or Keosauqua Fire Department may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 232, Keosauqua, IA 52565.

Yvonne E. Harward, 85, of Des Moines, formerly of Douds went to be with the Lord in Heaven Wednesday August 31, 2016 at Taylor House Hospice, Des Moines.  She was born January 3, 1931 to Hollis and Ethel Thomas Harward in Ottumwa.

Yvonne graduated in 1948 from Douds-Leando Consolidated Schools, received a Bachelors degree in Music Education (B.M.E) from Drake University in 1952 and earned her master’s degree in 1959.  She utilized her education to teach vocal music and piano in Iowa, Michigan and Kansas. Yvonne was a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha Iota, sang in many churches and at recitals as a soloist.   She loved fishing, quilting, gardening, bird watching, classical music and old hymns.

Yvonne is survived by her children Michael Johnson (Kris) of Altoona, John Johnson of Clive, Stephanie Johnson of Grimes, three grandchildren, Alyssa Smith, Amanda Wager (Michael) and Haylee Simpson, three great-grandchildren, Asa Resh, Danley Ross and Avery Wager, a brother, Bob Harward (Mary) of Indianola, nieces and a nephew.

She had 2 mottos “Keep on Trucking” and “What a Country” and has written poems and stories about her life.  Her relationship with God through Jesus Christ was the most important aspect of MOM.

In accordance with her wishes, Yvonne’s body has been cremated. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday September 6, 2016 in Leando Cemetery with Rev. Steven Benson officiating.  Memorials to Taylor House – Unity Point Hospice or Sigma Alpha Iota Music Therapy may be brought to the cemetery or mailed to the family at 1250 11th St. S.E., Apt 8211, Grimes, IA 50111.

OTTUMWA-John Arthur Potter, 87, of 2 Pennsylvania Place died at 7:58 p.m.  September 4, 2016 at The Haven in Ottumwa.

He was born December 13, 1938 in Ottumwa to Arthur and Lillian Hendren Potter.  He married Marilyn Jeanne Vogel on July 30, 1950.

A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he received his Master’s degree from Northeast Missouri State.  Having taught for 38 years, he taught in Industrial Arts at Franklin Jr. High and as the A.V. Director, Industrial Arts teacher and as a math teacher at Ottumwa High School, retiring in 1992.  After retirement he delivered flowers for North Hy-Vee.

A member of the First Christian Church, John served as deacon, elder and chairman of the church board.

He and his wife started M & J Picture Framing and was owner/operator for 25 years.  He enjoyed woodworking and traveling.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; a son, John A. Potter of Centralia, MO; two daughters, Elizabeth (Gregory) Gritton of Las Vegas, NV and Jana (Timothy) Hardie of Ottumwa; grandchildren Katherine (Mark) Horton, Jason Gritton, Mitchell, Alexander and Jackson Hardie; a great grandson, Harrison Horton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

His body has been cremated.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. John Disburg officiating.  Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service

Memorials may be made to the family for a scholarship at Ottumwa High School to be awarded to a student who will be pursuing a teaching career.

OTTUMWA- Cecil U. Bright Jr., 69, of Ottumwa died at 9:45 a.m.  September 3, 2016 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

He was born March 25, 1947 in Ottumwa to Mildred Willams and Cecil Bright Sr.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Cecil was a resident of Ottumwa until moving to Minnesota in 1992 and then returned to Ottumwa in March of 2016. He had retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works.

Surviving are his two daughters Natisha Bright of Columbia, MO and Meagan (Tally) Requena of Ottumwa; two sons Aaron (Laura) Bright of Ottumwa and Duncan Bright of Des Moines; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren;   three sisters, Anita, Debbie and Lisa Bright all of Minnesota and a brother David Bright of Minnesota;  his stepfather Rueben S. Pierson Jr. of Ottumwa; a girlfriend Peggy Gradberg.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Pierson; his father and stepmother Cecil Bright Sr. and Joanne Bright; two sisters Beverly Bright and Patricia Buxton and a brother Michael Bright.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Bell officiating.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.   Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and O. B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello County 927 E. Pennsylvania, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.

D. Imogene Peacock, 79 of Douds died at 12:26 A.M. Tuesday September 6, 2016 at Bloomfield Care Center, where she had resided since March 9, 2015. She was born September 11, 1936 in the Oak Grove neighborhood east of Douds to Lester V. and Erma Pool Hootman, grew up in the Oak Grove area and graduated from Birmingham High School and Parsons College, Fairfield. Imogene married Wendell W. Peacock May 29, 1960 in Oak Grove Church. He died January 2, 2016. They lived their married life in Douds. She taught elementary grades in a rural Keosauqua country school and in Douds and Stockport centers of Van Buren Community Schools, retiring in 1992.
Imogene was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Douds which she had served as Sunday School Superintendent, the Iowa and National Education Associations, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Van Buren County Retired Teachers Association and served on the board of White Chapel Cemetery east of Douds.
Remaining to cherish her memory are a daughter, Karoline Thornsberry (David) of Douds, four grandchildren, Ryan Thornsberry of Cantril, and Sarah, Taylor and Zane Thornsberry at home and a brother, Wayne Hootman (Diana) of rural Douds. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Darrell Hootman and a sister, Juanita Hootman.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday September 10, 2016 in Christ United Methodist Church, Douds with Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Visitation will be open from 4-6 P.M. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds. The family will receive friends 10-11 A.M. Saturday at the church prior to the service. Memorials to Oak Grove Church and School restoration or Van Buren Elementary School Library may be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 38, Douds, IA 52551. A Life Remembered…

Susan K. Phipps, age 74, passed from this life on September 3, 2016, at her home surrounded in love by her family.

Per Susan’s wishes her body has been cremated.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield. Reverend Joseph Phipps will be officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery following a luncheon at the church.

Visitation will be held 6-8PM on Thursday, September 8, at the First Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Women, Evergreen Cemetery, or the Fairfield Educational Foundation. Memorials and cards can be sent to: Sara Jorgensen, 1913 NE Lancaster Drive, Ankeny, IA 50021.

Susan was born to the late Lyman and Camilla (Dare) Evans on June 5, 1942, in Fairfield. She graduated from Fairfield High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education from the University of Iowa, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and Scottish Highlanders. Susan taught Physical Education at Fairfield High School in the mid-1960s and continued working as a substitute teacher for the Fairfield Community School District for 37 years.

Susan had an unwavering faith in God. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, served as a Deacon and a member of Gamma Circle and the Presbyterian Women. She was also a talented musician and was a member of the Chancel Choir and Bell Choir.

Susan loved family gatherings, socializing and making others feel at home. She was a true friend to many and a beloved member of the community. She founded a bridge club with other educators that is still going strong after 48 years. She also enjoyed playing in a second bridge club with friends for more than 20 years. A believer in giving back to her community, she was past president of PEO Chapter C and was active in the Fairfield Community Concert Association, Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary, and Habitat for Humanity.

Susan had a passion for reading and she passed that love on to her children and grandchildren which will always be part of the bond they share. She also had a passion for making her special recipe “Christmas Lace” and sharing it with those she loved during the Christmas season. It was a special treat anticipated by friends and family each year. Susan knew the best tomatoes were the homegrown version and for as long as her family remembers she grew perfect tomato plants off her back deck each summer. These special memories will leave a lasting imprint on the lives of all those she knew and loved.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Lyman and Camilla (Dare) Evans; as well as her brother, James Evans. Susan is survived and lovingly remembered by her son Robert Phipps, and daughter Sara (Phipps) Jorgensen and husband Chris: her five grandchildren Melanie Phipps, Ryan Phipps, Kelsi Phipps, Sydney Jorgensen, and Kendall Jorgensen; and one great-granddaughter, Payton Phipps, daughter of Melanie Phipps.

Susan’s family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her over the last several months, including the doctors, nurses and entire staff at the Jefferson Community Healthcare Center and Hospice Compassus. It was Susan’s wish to leave those she loves with this lasting message: “Love. God is love. Where love is, peace and joy abide. Let all that you do be done in love.”

BATAVIA-Harold Dean Giltner, 83, of Batavia, died September 8, 2016 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

He was born August 13, 1933 in Dunlap, IA to Harold and Alyce Bennett Casperson.  Later, he was adopted by his step-father, Everett Giltner.  He married Cleo McGhee on December 23, 1956 in Ottumwa.

Dean graduated from the Agency High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He has lived in the Bladensburg/Batavia area since 1959 on a farm and worked at John Morrell & Co. until the plant closed.  Dean served as a Wapello County Supervisor for 16 years until his retirement on December 31, 1999 and  he was the Pleasant Township Clerk before becoming a Supervisor and Commissioner for 11 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ottumwa where he was on the church board and served as a moderator for 8 years.  Dean was a member of the Batavia American Legion.  He bowled for many years, was past president of the Ottumwa Bowling Association and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 2005.  Dean went with his brother, Norton, to the Knoxville races every season and loved to watch the races.

Surviving is his wife, Cleo; a daughter, Joy (Brian) Thompson of Ottumwa; a son, Michael (Priscilla) Giltner of Batavia; 6 grandchildren, Ashlie Monroe (Adam Vivian) and Travis Thompson of Ottumwa, Shelly (Chris) Arp of Williamsburg, IA, Ryan, Marcus and Adam Giltner of Batavia; six great-grandchildren, Connor Monroe, Maddisen Petersen, Nathan, Max, Charlotte and Asher Arp; a brother, Norton (Addie Kay) Giltner of Batavia; a sister, Mildred (Gary) Vannoy of Richland and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Derby and Pastor David Albert officiating.  Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be made to First Baptist Church for the restoration of the stained glass windows.

OTTUMWA – Thelma May Lindsey, formerly of Ottumwa, IA, age 92, died September 5, 2016 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie in Sauk City, Wisconsin.

She was born October 24, 1923 in Davis County, Iowa to Lloyd and Irene Wagner Overturf.

She married Delmar Lindsey on February 8, 1948. They were married for 60 years. He preceded her in death on June 12, 2008.

Prior to her marriage she worked at John Morrell and Company for 5 ½ years. She was a homemaker all her married life. Thelma was known for her excellent pies, cakes, fudge and divinity.

She trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1969, and was a member of Ottumwa Baptist Temple for many years. Most recently she attended Calvary Baptist Church in Sauk City, Wisconsin, where her son is the Pastor.

Surviving are one daughter, Connie (Philip) Geiser of Mount Pleasant, IA, and one son, Dan (Connie) Lindsey of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin; five grandchildren,  Destin, Kiley, Heidi, Joshua and Amber; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Young and Janice Pickrell; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mildred Mottet; a brother, Robert Overturf; and one granddaughter, Stacie Lindsey.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Ottumwa Baptist Temple, Pastor Dan Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Ottumwa Baptist Temple of Ottumwa, Iowa or Calvary Baptist Church building fund of Sauk City, WI.

OTTUMWA-Debra Anne Pence, 63, of Ottumwa, died at 10:40 p.m. September 6, 2016 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

She was born October 27, 1952 in Ottumwa to Ramon and Claudine Huffman Terrell.  She married Dennis R. Pence on November 7, 1970.  He preceded her in death on August 1, 2015.

A 1970 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Debbie had been Deputy Treasurer at the Davis County Courthouse, had worked at the Ottumwa Courier and recently worked at NOEL Insurance.  She retired in 2014 to care for her husband.

Debbie was a member of the Ottumwa Women’s Bowling Association and was a faithful Cubs fan for many years.  She and her husband enjoyed traveling and spending time with her granddaughters.

Surviving is her daughter, Kim (Steve) Fears of Hedrick; two granddaughters, Madison Jo Fears and Kamryn Diane Fears; her mother, Claudine Terrell of Ottumwa; a sister, Darla (Brad) Francis of Eddyville; two brothers, Michael (Susan) Terrell and Travis Terrell both of Ottumwa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Doran and Joyce Pence of Bloomfield, Dick Dunlavy of Mission, TX, Sheryl and Ken Davis of Oskaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ramon Terrell and a sister-in-law, Donna Dunlavy.

Graveside services and  burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ottumwa Cemetery with Rev. Aaron L. Swaim officiating.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

OTTUMWA-Carolyn Ann Besco, 70, of Ottumwa, died September 8, 2016 at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa.

She was born December 16, 1945 in Hedrick to Donald and Bernice Mason Hutton.

Carolyn was a graduate of Hedrick High School and Indian Hills Community College.  She had worked at St. Joseph Hospital and at Everco.

She was a member of Hedrick Christian Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Shonda Besco of Phoenix, AZ, Danelle Besco of Bloomfield and Mandrea Besco of Ottumwa; 6 grandchildren; Andrew Veatch, Devin Besco, Malea McDowell , Courtney Besco, Adrian Bower and Elaina Bower; 2 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Bertch of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson.

Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating.

Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

Patricia Ann Sincox, 67, of 905 Wildwood Dr., died at 5:22 p.m. September 8, 2016 at Hospice House.

She was born June 30, 1949 in Ottumwa to John Maxwell and Dora Wanetta Connor Anderson.  She married Thomas Sincox on August 17, 1968 in Ottumwa

A 1967 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Pat had worked for one year as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone.  She worked in bookkeeping and customer service for 6 years at Ottumwa Glass until retiring in 2011.

She was a member of Ottumwa Church of the Brethren where she enjoyed the church activities.  Pat was passionate about working with the Wapello County Genealogical Society, enjoyed traveling, cooking and a 2 week mission trip to Honduras in January 2015.

Surviving is her husband, Tom; three sons, Steven (Colleen) Sincox of Marshalltown, Brian (Patti) Sincox of Ottumwa and Bradley (Randi) Sincox of Montezuma; 8 grandchildren and a brother, Leroy Anderson of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Eddie Dean Steele, 55, of Ottumwa, died at 2:09 p.m. September 8, 2016 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born June 22, 1961 in Iowa City to John Daniel and Jacqueline Hannan Steele.

Ed graduated from Albia High School.  He had worked in construction for a short time, had worked at Supervalu in Albia and for the City of Albia.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.  Ed was an artist and displayed and sold his art work in various places. He enjoyed wildflowers, music, cats, old classic movies and haunting movies.

Surviving is his mother, Jacqueline Steele of Ottumwa and his sister, Linda Hannan of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Steele; grandparents, Anna Hannan, Edward Cecil, Genevieve and William Steele and a sister.

Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home.  A Christian Wake will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday followed by family visitation until 5 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Ruth Beck, 89, of Hedrick, died September 8, 2016 at her home.

She was born September 23, 1926 in Ollie, IA to Merle and Maggie Pickering Chacey.  She married Don Beck on February 14, 1948.

A graduate of Ollie High School, Ruth attended Central College and graduated from Parsons College.  She taught for 2 years in Belle Plaine and for 28 years in Ottumwa Community Schools, retiring in 1968.

She was a charter member of Grace Family Church and a member of Gideons International.

Surviving is her husband, Don; a daughter, Delores (Donn) Stiner of Zion, IL; a son, Roger (Denise) Beck of Donnellson; five grandchildren, Beth, Erica, Phil, Danny and Roger; 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elma McLeod of Belle Plaine.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Grace Family Church on Highway 78 with Pastor Dar Eckley officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg.

Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Family Church with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Grace Family Church, Gideons International or Hospice of Keokuk County.

Richard D. Greenfield, 73, of Fairfield died at 1:30 P.M. Saturday September 10, 2016 at Jefferson County Health Center, Fairfield.  He was born August 2, 1943 in Douds to Cyrus H. and Alta Geneva Cooper Greenfield and grew up in Douds.

Richard married Judy Humphrey September 13, 1963 and they later divorced.  He married Shirley Guo August 12, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV.  He worked at Louden Machinery Company, Fairfield and currently owned and operated Dick’s Auto Towing in Fairfield.  He was a licensed private airplane piolet.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Dena Nordyke (Russell) of Biloxi, MS, a son, Tony Greenfield of Eolia, MO, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Sondra Dick (James) of Douds, three brothers, Dwain Greenfield (Lyn) of Douds, William Greenfield of Davenport and Michael Greenfield (Debbie) of Douds.  His parents and a brother, James Greenfield preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday September 14, 2016 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds with Pastor Danny Carey officiating.  Visitation will open at 3 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home with family present 5-7 P.M.  Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery east of Douds.  Memorials to Zion Lutheran Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 11609 Hwy. 16, Douds, IA 52551

Betty June Hunerdosse, age 73 of Fairfield passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 at her home.

Visitation for family & friends will be 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Monday, September 12, 2016 at Behner Funeral Home, Fairfield, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Nazarene Church, Fairfield, IA with Pastor Howard Innis officiating.  Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA.

Betty was born June 5, 1943 in Burlington, IA to Otis and Bessie (Morrison) Stufflebeam.  She married Robert Hunerdosse April 18, 1987 in Fairfield, IA.  This year they celebrated 29 years of marriage.

Betty was raised in Bunch, IA and moved to Bloomfield, IA and graduated with the class of 1960.  She lived 35 years in the Fairfield area.  Some of Bettys jobs were working at Jefferson County Public Health, Jefferson County Hospital and retired working at Nelsons Nursing Home.  Betty enjoyed cooking pumpkin bread, working crossword puzzles, watching The Andy Griffith Show, listening to Gospel Music, taking the Twilight Cruise down the Mississippi and most of all spending time with kids and grandkids.

Betty is survived by her husband, Bob Hunerdosse of Fairfield, IA; two daughters, Teresa Morales of Baxter, IA and Julie McKay of Olds, IA; two sons, Rich Hunerdosse of Des Moines, IA and Joe Hunerdosse of Spring Hill, KS; 8 grandchildren, Matthew Richard, Alex Richard, Samantha McKay, Tyler Richard, Josie Hunerdosse, Alyssa Hunerdosse, Ivan Hunerdosse and Abby Hunerdosse; two great grandchildren, Eowyn Richard and Merrick Richard; and one brother William Stufflebeam.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Bessie Stufflebeam; and one sister, Alice Helmick Stufflebeam.

OTTUMWA – Sally Bevan of 21 Weaver Dr. died at 2:56 p.m. September 9, 2016 at Hospice House.

She was born September 4, 1937 in Forest City, IA to Maynard and Ruth Langerud.  She married Jim Bevan on September 8, 1957 at North Prairie Lutheran Church near Leland, IA.

Sally graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1955 and attended the University of Iowa School of Nursing for a year.  She worked on a Neurology Ward for a year before moving to Ottumwa.  She continued her education at a later date; graduating from Ottumwa Heights in 1973 with an A.A. Degree and William Penn College in 1975 with a B.A. in English.

She worked for Ottumwa Schools for 19 years.  She started as a freshman English and Communications Skills Teacher at Walsh.  When Walsh closed, she went to Ottumwa High School where she completed her teaching career.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and several clubs, of which, Irving Club was her favorite.  She loved playing bridge, reading, yoga, gardening and decorating.

Surviving is her husband, Jim; a daughter, Julie (Kevin) Gorman of Colleyville, TX; two sons, James A. Bevan of Ottumwa and Jon (Ann) Bevan of Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren, Cassie, Lauren, Lexi and Joe; two brothers, Cal (Muriel) Langerud of Clear Lake and Mesa, AZ an David Langerud of Blaine, MN; two sisters-in-law, Myrna Langerud of Des Moines and Sue Langerud of Leland, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Duane Langerud and Ernest Langerud.

Her body has been cremated.  A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Klanderman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church or Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties, 927 Pennsylvania Ave. Ottumwa, IA 52501.

LARRY HICKMAN

OTTUMWA – Larry Ray Hickman, 71, of 555 S. Ramsom St. died at 11 p.m. September 9, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born June 20, 1945 in Ottumwa to Clarence “Dutch” and Rita Giltner Hickman.  He married Eva Dennison July 29, 1979.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1963, Larry served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years and for 8 years in the Iowa Army National Guard Company B, 224th Engineering Battalion and Communications.

He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Ottumwa and as the company changed they moved to Davenport for 14 years.  After 32 years he retired from what is currently Lucent Technologies.  He then worked for Sands Communication in Cedar Rapids for 5 years and owned and operated Total Telephone Co. for 5 years.  After his retirement from telephone service, Larry drove a bus for 10-15 Transit.

He enjoyed volunteering at Wilson Elementary and at the Wapello County Historical Museum.  He enjoyed photography and building remote airplanes which he flew with a group from Davenport.

Surviving is his wife, Eva; a daughter, Kim (Paul) Bodnar of New York; a son, Scott (Rebecca) Hickman of Missouri; a step-daughter, Helen (Greg) Showalter of Ottumwa; a step-son, Carl (Heather) Thomas of Oskaloosa; 10 grandchildren; 7 great -grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Rhodes of Ottumwa; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-father, Paul Kalsik.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Dan Smith officiating.  Cremation will follow the services.  Private inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Historical Museum.

WILMA MURRAY

OTTUMWA – Wilma J. Murray, 80, of 336 N. Quincy Ave died at 7:33 a.m. September 10, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.

She was born October 4, 1935 in Sigourney to Roy H. and Zola Bunnell Frase. She married Patrick J. Murray September 10, 1955.  He preceded her in death June 24, 2004.

A graduate of Ottumwa Heights, Wilma had worked as a telephone operator and was a stay at home mom. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, challenging board games, a good mystery and spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Surviving are 6 children, Pam (Ken) Carlson of Ottumwa, Terry Murray of Des Moines, Daniel (Chris) Murray of Cummings, IA, John Murray of North Carolina, Cathy Rempe (Herb Greenfield) of Ottumwa, Andrew (Kristy) Murray of Ottumwa; 15 grandchildren, Heather (Ryan) Carlson-Hutchinson, Chad Carlson, Ashley Carlson, Jaelyn Shelby, Teresa James, Sarah  (Zach) Hoover, Torey Murray, Courtney Brown, Heather Brown, Sean Murray, Rachel (Ryan) Kelly, Joshua (Holly) Rupe, Ryan Rupe, Jennifer (Terry) Whitlatch, Justin Murray; 11 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Evelyn Bunnell; a son-in-law, Ken Rempe; best friend, Jeannie Belzer; along with several wonderful friends and good neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Hilda Clark; a brother, Ralph Frase, Sr.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home.  A Christian Wake service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by family visitation until 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society
