GEORGE BOITNOTT
OTTUMWA – George Edgar Boitnott Jr., 83, of 13231 Angle Rd. died at 2:05 a.m. December 4, 2016 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born December 28, 1932 in Cambridge, IA to George Edgar and Floma Clements Boitnott. He married Patricia Lou Campbell August 28, 1954.
A graduate of Newton High School in 1951, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 – 1955 during the Korean War. George and Patty lived in Newton before moving to Ottumwa in 1961when he became a partner of Wheeler’s Typewriter Exchange on Church St. George also sold life insurance for Bankers Life for a few years before starting George Boitnott Enterprises in 1966.
He was a member of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M., Davenport Consistory, Clinton Chapter 9, Ottumwa Council 31, Malta Commandery 31, KAABA Shrine Club as well as the Ottumwa Shrine Club where he was a member of the Cycle Patrol and Ragtops. He took great joy in volunteering to transport children to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. He was also a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. George and his wife Patty loved to travel.
Surviving is his wife, Patty; three children, Vickie Lynn (Kevin) Edmundson of Wichita, KS, Jeff (Linda) Boitnott of Ottumwa and Kim (C.J.) Lett of Wichita, KS; five grandchildren, Shanel (Justin) Livengood, Dev (Alicia) Engle, Cassie (Jeremy) Marts, Clint Lett and Madeleine Lett; a granddaughter-in-law, Kimbra Boitnott, six great- grandsons, Aiden, Will, Vincent, Everett, Gavin and Colton; a brother-in-law, Burt Lothe of Newton; two nephews, Scott and Eric Lothe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Lothe and a grandson, Chad Boitnott.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with his nephew, Pastor Scott Lothe officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday. A Masonic Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by a time where the family will receive friends until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties, 927 Pennsylvania Ave. Ottumwa, IA 52501.
