Linda Cook

Linda Kay Cook, 77, of Ottumwa, died at 12:10 p.m. December 20, 2024 at her home.

She was born May 6, 1947 in Ottumwa to Gerald and Genevieve Leonard Zwer. She married Danny Skinner 1969 and he preceded her in death in 1989. From this marriage, three children were born, Brenda Lynn, Jason Travis and Jeremy Jon. Linda later met and married Allan Cook April 16, 1994.

Linda graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1965 and from the Indian Hills Community College Nursing Program in 1981. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital before moving over to Ottumwa Regional Health Center from 1966-2000’s as a registered nurse with most of those years in Psychiatric Medicine and Home care. Linda spent 16 years working for First Resources as a Direct Support Staff member.

She was a member of Ottumwa Community Church.

Linda loved the Lord, her children, grandchildren and most of all, her great grandchildren.

She enjoyed her Tuesday morning Bible Study, traveling, eating out with friends and attending church on Sundays.

Linda would do anything for anybody and rarely did you hear her say “no”. She was an avid animal lover, fostering several dogs in which she ended up adopting along with volunteering numerous hours at the Heartland Humane Society. In the summer, she would always plant her flowers and requested plants and hanging baskets for her birthday and Mother’s Day.

Surviving is her husband, Allan; her children, Brenda (Mitchell) McGill of Albia, Jason (Cheryl) Skinner and Pastor Jeremy (Michelle) Skinner both of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren, Krista VanBlaricome of Ottumwa, Kayla (Levi) Johnston of Eddyville, Skyler (Destiney) Skinner of Ottumwa, Justus Skinner of Oskaloosa, Dylan Skinner of Ottumwa, Sophea Skinner (Dalton Haynes) of Douds, Ellie May Skinner of Ottumwa; 3 step grandchildren, Mitch (Reka) McGill of Odessa, TX, Amanda (Shane) Rupe of Ottumwa and Heather (Keith) Hutton of Bloomfield; great grandchildren, William Roche, Spencer and Ephraim Skinner, Emma Skinner, Madelyn Johnston and Chelsea Rupe; and 2 brothers, Larry Zwer and Richard (Tammy) Zwer both of Ottumwa.; best friends, Linda Marquesen, Rod Stevens and Jodi Fullenkamp.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; a nephew, Troy Zwer; a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Zwer.

Visitation will begin 11 a.m. Friday, December 27th, at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 28th, at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society or Ottumwa Community Church.
