LUCY PROCTOR

BLAKESBURG-Lucy E. Proctor, 97, formerly of Blakesburg, died at 8:30 p.m. February 26, 2017 at Ridgewood Specialty Care.

She was born June 10, 1919 in Wapello County, IA to Fred and Fannie Cook Eakins.  She married Manscel Proctor on July 22, 1940 and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2012.

A resident of Blakesburg since 1945, Lucy had attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving is her daughter, Hazel Haaland of Citrus Heights, CA and a good friend, Connie Beinhart of Bloomfield.

She was preceded in death by 7 sisters, Elsie Phillips, Blanche Reinhard, Alta Eakins, Ruth Eakins, Marcille Hartley, Alice Ritter and Bertha Keller; 3 brothers, Floyd, John Henry and Alva Eakins.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating.  Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be open after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel Cemetery Association.

OTTUMWA-Diana Craft 60, of Moncks Corner, SC, formerly of Ottumwa, died February 21, 2017 at home.

She was born March 12, 1956 in Bloomfield to Ramon F. and Marilyn June Overturf Goldizen.  She married Stephen Craft in Ottumwa.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Diana had worked in health care for the Mayo Clinic Hospital, John Deere Health Care and Orangeburg Regional Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen; her children, Aaron, Timothy and Amy Craft; 5 grandchildren, Samuel, Hayden, Chloe, Eleanor and Joey Craft; her father, Ramon Goldizen; a sister, Darcy Goldizen and a brother, Danny Goldizen.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Goldizen.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jesse Elkins officiating.  Burial will be in Sherman Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be 1 hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation.

DOROTHY EAKINS

OTTUMWA – Dorothy M. Eakins, 99, of Ottumwa, died at 2:55 p.m. February 26, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society- Ottumwa.

She was born March 18, 1917 near Sigourney to Nicholas and Josephine Snakenburg Wallerich. She married H. Glen Eakins on October 1, 1938 and he preceded her death on February 19, 2003.

Dorothy was a homemaker, a gardener; she made many quilts and lap covers and gave all to family and friends.

She had been a member of Ottumwa Baptist Temple where she taught Sunday school for 39 years.  Dorothy also taught and helped in summer Bible Time.

Surviving are her sons, Larry (Patricia) Eakins and Edward (Denise) Eakins, both of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren, Scott Eakins, Lisa (Scott) McCoy, Debbie Mitra, Phyllis (Bob) Thompson; 5 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua McCoy, Lindsey and Brandon Thompson, and Sophie Mitra.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Hazel I. Eastburn and Grace M. Gilliland.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Travis Decker officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Friday.  The family will be present one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ottumwa Baptist Temple or to the family.

BONNIE GARNER

OTTUMWA-Bonnie Louise Garner, 91, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 3:37 p.m. February 27, 2017 at Crestview Acres in Marion.

She was born September 25, 1925 in Ottumwa, IA to Guy Cooper and Hazel Sedore Johnston Sr.   She married Charles Ray Chilcote on November 13, 1945 in Oskaloosa and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1950.  She married Floyd Harold Garner on June 30, 1952 in Bridal Cave in Lake of the Ozarks, MO and he preceded her in death on April 26, 1990.

A 1944 graduate of Kirkville High School, she had worked at John Morrell & Co. from 1945 to 1950.  She owned and operated Bonnie’s Hair Fashions from 1954 to 1974.

Bonnie was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.  Bonnie was a member of TOPS for 31 years, serving as president for several terms.  She participated in the Foster Grandparent program at Horace Mann School and Bridge of Hope from 2001 to 2010, was a member of the Quilting Club  at the YWCA and a member of the Quilting Club and Friendship Club at South Oak Towers where she lived from 1990 to 2010.  Bonnie had been a resident of Crestview Acres since 2010.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and Bluegrass festivals.

Surviving is her sister, Judy Carrie Kennedy of Marion; several nieces and nephews and a sister-in law, Betty Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Donald, Dale, Robert, Rex, Guy Jr. and Virgil Johnston.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding.  Burial will be in Drakesville Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Norley Smith

NORLEY SMITH

OTTUMWA-Norland Vinson Smith, 81, of 2631 N. Court Rd., died at 3:20 a.m. February 27, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

He was born May 14, 1935 in Ottumwa to Harold and Isabelle Watts Smith.  He married Shirley Jones on September 19, 1953.

A 1953 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Norley had worked at Meadow Gold Dairy before working for 36 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works.  He retired as inspector in 1996.

He attended Trinity Church of the Nazarene.

He umpired high school baseball and was an active coach in the American Little League while his sons were growing up.  Norley loved fishing.

Surviving is his wife, Shirley; two sons, Jim Smith and Jeff (Lisa) Smith; three grandchildren, Jimi Leann Smith, Lindsey Jo (Ben) Ebert and Jentri Smith and a great-granddaughter due to be born in March.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Roberta Brown; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Darlene and Jimmy Jones.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Eigsti and Pastor Bill Hornback officiating.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Church or the Nazarene or First Church of the Open Bible.

 Marianne I. Schrepfer, 98, of Keosauqua died at 3:06 P.M. Monday February 27, 2017 at Keosauqua Health Care Center where she had resided since October, 2012.  She was born April 4, 1918 in rural Bonaparte to Clinton and Mabel Morris Huff and married Gilbert W. Schrepfer December 26, 1941 at Palmyra, MO.  He died December 13, 2010.

They lived had in Farmington and Ollie, moved back to Bonaparte in 2002 and later to Keosauqua.  She earned her Bachelors Degree at Iowa Wesleyan College and her Masters Degree at Northeast Missouri State College and taught at rural schools and at Harmony and Pekin Schools.

She was a long-time member of the Ollie Chapter 549 Order of Eastern Star and Bonaparte United Church and had been active in Sigourney Red Cross, Ollie Betterment Club, Prairie View United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Bible study groups, Ollie Grandmothers Club and Bonaparte Chocolate Sisters Club.

Marianne had volunteered many hours working and mentoring the elderly and children and with hospice and Red Cross.  She and Gib loved to play golf, do ballroom dancing and playing cards, especially Pitch which she taught to her children and grandchildren.  Her main rule for card playing was “No Cheating”.  She especially loved her children and grandchildren.  Many people believed Marianne had a hot line to God and if they needed prayers they would call her.  She spent many hours praying for her family and friends.  Two of Marianne and Gib’s favorite sayings were “God has been so good to us” and ” We have been truly blessed”.

Remaining to cherish her memory are two sons, Stephen Schrepfer (Darlene) of Arkadelphia, AR and Charles Schrepfer (Keeta) of Perry, AR, 6 grandchildren, Warren Schrepfer (Sharon), Adam Schrepfer (Yvonne), Stephen Schrepfer (Deb), Wendi Pearson (Billy), Amy Patterson (Corey) and David Schrepfer (Ann), 21 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, special friends, Jerry and Margo Elliott and Gary and Cheryl Adam, other relatives and many friends.  In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, a great-granddaughter, Brittany Schrepfer, six sisters, Mary Williams, Eunice Williams, Edna Huff, Alice McAtee, Jean Rathmel and Pearl Standley and three brothers, Ben, Clinton and Morris Huff.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday March 2, 2017 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Pastor Mark Caston and Rev. Blake Schrepfer officiating.  Visitation will open at 3P.M. Wednesday with family present 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Greenglade Cemetery, Farmington.  Gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 30 Van Marion Drive, Perry, AR 72125

Donna J. Wolfe, 84, formerly of Bonaparte died at 1:51 P.M. Sunday March 5, 2017 at Donnellson Health Care Center where she had resided since July 2012.

Donna was born June 19, 1932 in Bonaparte to Emil and Frances Peck Noske and married Dean E, Wolf on January 12, 1952 in Keosauqua Methodist parsonage.  Dean died April 6. 2013.

Donna graduated from Bonaparte High School as salutatorian of the class of 1949 and was a member of Bonaparte Baptist Church.  She was employed for many years as a supervisor at Fairfield Glove Co. in Bonaparte and also worked at White’s Shopping Center in Bonaparte.  Later in life the Wolfes lived in Branson, MO and New London.

Surviving are a son, Russell Wolfe (Denise) of Mt. Pleasant, a daughter Dorothea Feuerborn (Robert) of Rockaway Beach, MO, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a brother, Fred Noske of Bonaparte, a sister, Mary Lou Peterson of Creston, other relatives and many friends.  In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Lynne Noske in childhood.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday March 8, 2017 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Pastor Larry Wallingford officiating.  Visitation with family present will be 10-11 A.M. Wednesday prior to the service.  Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery.  Memorials to Bonaparte First Responders may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1005 Oakbrook Drive, Mt. Pleasant, IA 52641

BLOOMFIELD-Cynthia Diane “Cindy” Edgington, 59, of Bloomfield, died after a brief illness at 1:02 p.m. March 2, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

She was born April 17, 1957 in Ottumwa to Darrell E. and Dorothy Barton McCarty.  She married Kevin Edgington on June 11, 1977.

A lifelong resident of Wapello County, Cindy was a 1976 graduate of Cardinal High School.

She held many positions over the years, most recently with Cargill, but her passion was creative sandblasting of custom artworks.  She was more comfortable working in a garage as her father encouraged her natural mechanical abilities.

Surviving is her husband, Kevin; a son, Justin Edgington of Bloomfield and a step son, Michael Kopp of Ohio; two sisters, Karen McCarty  (Manly Pratt) of Floris and Sharon McCarty of Glenwood; and a brother, Gary McCarty of Afton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.

Cremation will follow the visitation.

Inurnment will be in Iowaville Cemetery, east of Eldon at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society,   P.O. Box 1149 Ottumwa, IA 52501.

OTTUMWA- R. Arlene Breckenridge, 93, of Ottumwa, died at 8:14 a.m. March 1, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.

She was born September 9, 1923 in Chariton, IA to Lloyd William and Gertrude Liddicoat Conner.  She married Keith LaVerne Breckenridge on March 21, 1945 and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2000.

Arlene was a 1942 graduate of Ottumwa High School.  She had worked at Standard Kollsman , in food service at Washington Junior High School and retired from J.C. Penney’s.

She was a member of Willard Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon (Michael) Ballard of Surprise, AZ; two sons, Steven Craig (Debbie) Breckenridge of Ottumwa and Kim (Sheri) Breckenridge of Goddard, KS; 8 grandchildren, Kevin (Marjorie) Hannah, Karri (John) Cross, Jeremy Breckenridge, Jena (Jason) Owens, Jesse Breckenridge, Erik Breckenridge, Ryan (Amanda) Breckenridge and Renee (Jason) Sanderholm; 5 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Koryn, Danielle, Ryker and Kade.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Danny Keith Breckenridge.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Disburg officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Cheryl Lee Parmelee, 76, of Keosauqua formerly of Cantril died at 12:30 A.M. Tuesday March 7, 2017 at Keosauqua Health Care Center. She was born February 23, 1941 in Los Angeles, CA to Lee J. and Verda L. Whitcanack Parmelee.

Cheryl grew up in California, graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1958 and had attended several colleges and graduated from San Francisco State University in 1963 with a degree in Sociology. She spent many years in Bakersfield working as a secretary for an insurance company before moving to Iowa to take care of her mother. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield where she worked for many years in the church office and attended Cantril United Methodist when she could not make it to Fairfield. Cheryl was a member of Cantril Grass Roots Organization, sang in the church choir and also soloist for numerous events and churches. She spent her adult being a guardian angel for many people as a caretaker. Cheryl enjoyed traveling, feeding birds, working at the haunted trail in Cantril, shopping and helping everybody that she could.

She is survived by a brother, Ronald Parmelee of Bastrop, TX, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday March 10, 2017 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Joseph Phipps officiating. Visitation with family will be 10-11 A.M. prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery west of Keosauqua. Memorials to Snack in a Sack program may be left at the funeral home or mailed to 209 W. North Street, Cantril, IA 52542

OTTUMWA-Doddie Gale Batres, 54, of 224 S. Moore St. died at 6:57 a.m. March 6, 2017 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born November 11, 1962 in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Charles Coker and Francine L. Smith.  She married Jaime Guevara-Betencourt and they later divorced.  She married Francisco Batres on November 9, 1995.

Doddie lived most of her life in Denver, CO, moving to Ottumwa in 2008.  She had been a caregiver for many years.

Surviving is her husband, Francisco; her children, James Guevara of Denver, CO and Benita Guevara of Portland, OR; 2 grandchildren, Miguel Rodriguez and Abraham Tapia; and her mother, Francine Smith of Portland, OR.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Victor Valdez Jr. officiating.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be 1 hour prior to the service.

OTTUMWA – Dale Martin Reed, 85, of Ottumwa, died at 8 p.m. March 12, 2017 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born January 4, 1932 in Ottumwa to Edward C. and Lora Sloan Reed.  He married Anne Marie Dulin and she preceded him in death on January 16, 1977.  He married Colleen Clubine Harms on June 10, 1979.

A 1950 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Dale served aboard an aircraft carrier with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  He worked for 49 years for J.C. Penney’s in Ottumwa.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where he sang in the choir and served on the Parish Council.  He was an original member of the Seton Catholic School Board. He was a member of General Shields Council #888 Knights of Columbus and General McMullen Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.  He had enjoyed bowling, gardening, mowing the yard, being outdoors and traveling.

Surviving is his wife, Colleen; his children, Michelle (David) Nupp, John (Donna) Reed, Joe (Sheila) Reed all of Ottumwa and Mary (Dan) Allen of Stanton, IA; step-children, Christy (Pat) Todey of Burlington and Jeannine (Corey) Roberts of Lisbon; son-in-law, Sam Wagner; 12 grandchildren, Jeanine, Justin, Joshua, Ryan, Jerred, Chelsea, Brittany, Kennedy, Brooklyn, Leslie, Stephen, Aaron; 4 step-grandchildren, Kyle, Amber, Isabella, Sophia; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Reneé Wagner; a grandson, Tracy Dale Nupp; a great-grandson; two brothers, Bill and Ben Reed.

Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick Hilgendorf presiding and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus serving as honor guard.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Family visitation will follow until 7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Seton Catholic School or Alzheimer’s Association.

OTTUMWA-Dorothy Jean Sapp Beedilla, 58, of 826 E. Finley, died at 5:52 a.m. March 12, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

She was born June 24, 1958 in Ottumwa to Eddie E. and Leona Surber Sapp. She married John P. Beedilla on February 7, 2004.

Dorothy was a LPN and had worked at Ottumwa Manor for 30 years, and with in-home care.

She had attended First Pentecostal Assembly of God in her younger years.

Dorothy enjoyed Pokemon Go, fishing, loved angels and being with her family and family gatherings.

Surviving is her husband, John; her daughters, Dorothy Joe (Mark) Buchanan and Tammy Sapp both of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Aundrea (Ashley) Buchanan, Brenden Buchanan and Spencer Sapp; a great-grandson, Jase Buchanan; her siblings, Eddie E. (Tara) Sapp, Carrie (Don) Quinby, George E. Sapp, Roy E. Sapp, Jane E. Petersma, Helen (Todd) Stuart, Debra L. (Glenn) Olson and Becky Surber; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Loyd Osborn officiating.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be 1 hour prior to the service.

OTTUMWA-Ronald L. Clark, 72, of 360 Lynwood, died at 6:58 p.m. March 13, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born August 3, 1944 in Ottumwa to Arthur Monroe and Lillian Geraldine Burtlow Clark.  He married Janice Knox on October 1, 1966.

Ron served with the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

He enjoyed Harley Davidsons, fishing, playing Uno and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and their activities.

Ron worked for 30 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, he then worked as a security guard at Super 8 and for Lewis Systems as an armed guard, retiring in 2009.

He was a member of the Church of the Brethren.  Ron served on the original board of the Ottumwa Girls Softball League and coached both of his daughters’ teams.

Surviving is his wife, Jan; two daughters, Lori (Shawn) Williamson of Houston, TX and Angie (Koree) Strong of Ottumwa; a son, Sean (Kysha) Clark of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren, Tyler Hatfield, Kaelyn Strong, Ashlee Strong and Brody Clark; and a sister, Pam (Mark) VanEssen of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Paulette Clark.

His body has been cremated.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Visitation with the family present will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

MAX MILLER

OTTUMWA – Max Joseph Miller, 83, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Ottumwa died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Max was born to Anna and Stephen Miller in Ottawa, IL on January 6, 1934.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen, age 8, and a sister at birth.  Max graduated from St. Ambrose University and received his master’s degree from the University of Iowa in accounting.  He attended Officer’s Candidate School and stayed in the Navy for twenty years, retiring with the rank of Commander.  In 1963, he moved to Ottumwa as manager of the Chamber of Commerce, where he met his wife, Cherie.  They were married on October 3, 1964. He later assumed the position of Business Manager for the Ottumwa Community School District where he signed Cherie’s paychecks.  He retired from this position in 1995.

Max and Cherie moved to Cedar Rapids in 2005 to be close to their grandchildren.  This brought them years of joy.  While living in Cedar Rapids, Max delivered food to shut-ins, served at the Marion Food Pantry, and was on the Cedar Rapids Planning Committee.  He was also on the auditor committee for the Cedar Rapids Schools and a member of the Inter-religious Council Board.  He attended St. Joseph Church in Marion and visited nursing homes each Sunday.

Max was active in many groups.  He received the Salvation Army Lifetime Award, was a City Council member, and was president of the Ottumwa Regional Health Board, Water Works Board, and RVI Board.  He was a member of the Noon Kiwanis and Library Board and was one of the founders of the Tenco Industries.  He was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation.

Max is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Cherie, daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Todd Steigerwaldt of Marion, IA, and grandchildren, Joseph and Lauren.

Max and Cherie enjoyed many years of traveling and attending their grandchildren’s activities.  A life-long Cubs fan, Max realized his dream last fall when the Cubs won the World Series.

Visitation will be Monday, March 20th from 4-6:30 p.m. at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Ottumwa Cemetery with Father James Betzen CPPS officiating.

Memorials may be directed to Tenco Industries or St. Mary of the Visitation.

ERNEST JACOBS

OTTUMWA-Ernest Dale Jacobs, 84, of Ottumwa, died at 7:25 a.m. March 20, 2017 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born October 29, 1932 in Washington, IA to Robert and Vera Yeoman Jacobs.  He married LeDoris Jane Polson and they later divorced.  He  was married to Margaret Jacobs and she preceded him in death in 1974.

A graduate of Agency High School, he lived in Arizona from 1969 to 2005.

Surviving are his children, Doris Rump of Ottumwa, Donna Rae Connely and Diana Lynn Farmer both of Brighton and Debra Sue Appleget of Ottumwa; a son, Ernest Dale Jacobs Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; 24 grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren and a brother, Alfred Kippling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Donna Sue Connely and a grandson, Joseph Allen Connely.

Visitation with the family present will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Glendale, AZ.

Memorials may be made to the family.

JEAN HUDSON

OTTUMWA-Beverly Jean Hudson, 66, of Ottumwa, went to be with the Lord at 11:01 a.m. March 21, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

She was born July 11, 1950 in Ottumwa to William Lyle and Violet C. White Long.  She married Steve Hudson and they later divorced.

A graduate of Blakesburg Community High School, she graduated from Indian Hills Community College as a licensed practical nurse.

Jean had worked at Good Samaritan, Sunnyslope Care Center and other nursing homes and in home care.

She had been a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Jean enjoyed traveling, playing cards, reading, cats and most of all loved her family.

Surviving are two sisters, her twin Barbara Jane Long and Carolyn Yeoman; two brothers, Robert (Jane) Long all of Ottumwa and Gary (Bridget) Long of Berryville, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, Kenneth and Ronald Long and a sister, Doris Williams.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.

The family will be present one hour prior to the service.

  GARTH GREEN

CARLISLE- SFC Harry Garth Green, 38, of Carlisle formerly of Agency, died March 19, 2017 at his home.

He was born June 5, 1978 in Creston to Ronald Ray and Kathy Dianne Jennings Green.  He married Mirela Elizabeth Moore on April 18, 2015.

A 1996 graduate of Cardinal High School, Garth served 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps with the 1st Battalion Recon stationed at Camp Pendleton.  When 9/11 happened he joined the Army National Guard as a MP, serving two tours in Iraq in 2003 and 2007,    one tour in Afghanistan in 2010 and in South America in 2012. He served on many humanitarian missions stateside including helping with the Katrina aftermath. Garth was a recruiter for the Iowa Army National Guard and served on the counter drug task force.

Garth was currently working as a machinist at John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny, having worked there since 2001.  He worked part time in the Fareway meat department in Carlisle.

Garth enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children.  He loved to cook and was a musician at heart.

Surviving is his wife, Mirela; his children, Kimberlee Jonté Green and Noah Ray Green; two step-children, Hayley Jo Eads and Jakob Levi Eads; his parents, Ray (Barb) Green of Agency and Kathy (Randy) Davis of Ottumwa; grandmother, Mary Louise Jennings of Ottumwa; siblings, DeLisa Kent of Albia, Angela Wymore of Martinsville, VA, Nathan (Sarah) Green of Ankeny, Tifani (Joe) Young  and Donald McMartin both of Ottumwa, Misty Johnston and Jason (Wendy) Johnston both of Mt. Pleasant; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Harry and Darlene Green and William Jennings.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Bill O’Connell officiating.  Burial will be in Agency Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family for his children’s education.
